Susan's POV
I couldn't wait for the day to end so I could attend the dinner with Don Santos's family.
I beamed like a teenager who was madly in love that anyone could notice the happiness written on my face.
"Miss Susan, you have a call," Maggie said and knocked at my room door with my cellphone ringing. I had left my phone on the table after lunch. I was so lost in my euphoria that I had forgotten it.
"Who's on the line?" I asked and walked out of the bathroom.
"It's Miss Sarah, ma'am. " She said, stretching the phone to me.
"Drop the phone on the table, please," I replied, trying to avoid her face.
Maggie gave a surprised look and dropped the phone on the table.
"Miss Susan, is there an issue between you and her? I noticed you rarely talk about her these days. It's unlike you, and now you are ignoring her calls," Maggie inquired with concern. I paused for a while and contemplated whether to open up to her about Sarah and me. Maggie was someone I could trust. Her advice over the years has been helpful in many areas.
"Have you ever been with a woman?" I asked blankly and watched her stare at me in confusion.
"You mean being with a woman like a female bestie?" she asked and I took a deep breath.
"No I mean have you been intimate with a woman before or maybe sexually attracted to one?" I pouted my lips and watched her confused look turn into a disgusted one.
"Nope, I haven't. Though ladies do make advances I have never reciprocated the feelings" Maggie gasped.
I smiled and wondered what was going through her innocent mind as she kept staring at me waiting for my response.
"Did she throw advances at you? Is that the reason you are avoiding her?" Maggie asked with her eyes bewildered in shock while I smiled.
"What if she did? What would you advise me to do?" I asked ignoring her question.
"If she wants you ma'am, then go for her. She's your best friend, a beautiful woman, and one that can keep a secret. I am good also in keeping secrets." She replied blankly and I gave her a surprised look. I didn't expect such a response from her.
"I believe everyone should be happy and if that would make you happy then why not," she added defensively and I nodded.
"You will run late for your dinner if we keep talking Miss Susan," Maggie said as she looked at the wall clock and I nodded.
"You look too hot for someone going for a family dinner, " she said teasingly as she stared at me. I felt uncomfortable and tried to adjust my gown. I wouldn't want Don Santos's wife to feel uncomfortable with my presence especially since her kids would be there.
"You look amazing. I was just teasing you, ma'am, " she chuckled while I frowned.
******************"*********************
Larry and I arrived at Don Santos's apartment by eight p.m. It was a beautiful duplex located at the heart of the city.
From the luxuries of cars parked in his garage, one could tell how wealthy Don was.
"Hello Miss Susan," A young girl greeted me with a wide smile on her face as I walked to the entrance of the pavement.
"You must be Sonia? " I asked heartily and she nodded. Sonia had a striking resemblance with her dad and one could tell with the way she smiled that she was Don's daughter.
"I have had great things about you, " I said with a smile.
"Really? I hope they are indeed great? " she asked innocently and I smiled.
"Yes, little princess,"
"I'm a huge fan of your artistic work and your fashion brand. You are my idol and This is a great privilege," she said excitedly as I watched her in admiration.
"Thank you, Miss Sonia,"
"Can I please get your autograph so I can show my friends and brag about hosting you please," she pleaded and I nodded.
She handed over a book and a pen as she watched me in amusement as I signed.
"Here you go," I said handing over her book and pen.
"I have a lot of questions to ask you... Today is one of the happiest days of.... "
"Sophi. Can you stop bothering our guest and let her in first," A feminine voice called walking towards the door.
"Hello Miss Susan," Mrs Don greeted. She was more beautiful than I thought and had all it takes to be the wife of a well-known billionaire.
"Hi, You must be Mrs. Don, the First Lady of the Don Santos empire," I said teasingly and she laughed.
"I'm Juliana, Frey's wife," she replied and I gave a puzzled look.
"Frey? I don't know any Frey." I said as she smiled.
"I guessed you don't know him as Frey. That's his name but of course, you know him as Don Santos,"
"Oh, I see," I replied and we both laughed.
" Please come in and don't mind Sophia, she is a big fan," she said and I smiled.
The living room was beautifully decorated. One could tell it was a new apartment with the way everything looked new.
"You have a beautiful apartment," I complimented.
"Thank you, please make yourself comfortable. Don will join you shortly," she said and walked away.
Don walked in as soon as his wife stepped out.
We exchanged pleasantries and had a few discussions about the new collaboration.
"Have you been able to convince your son about the modeling ?" I asked.
"Yeah. I briefed him about it and told him you would tell him more at dinner," Don said and I smiled.
"Where is he?" I asked inquisitively.
"He should be in his room getting ready for dinner, and you seem so interested in him, " he said and my heart skipped a beat.
"He is a great avenue for the success of this project and I have to be interested in him," I said defensively and Don nodded his head.
"Dinner is set. Can we all go over to the dining table," Mrs Don said interrupting our conversation as she walked towards us.
"Sophie, please go get Rex," She instructed Sophia who was helping with the arrangement of the dining.
"Why Rex? What about Frederick ?" Don asked.
"Fredrick had gone out with a friend, he promised to return before dinner time. But I got a text from me a few minutes ago that he wouldn't be coming on time," Mrs. Frey said and Don gave a disappointed look.
"I told him how important this dinner was to the family brand and he couldn't skip his meeting for it. " Don said angrily.
"We can always reschedule or maybe he can come over to my office whenever he is free. You know how teenagers can be," I said and faked a smile.
"Please I am so sorry about his nonchalant behavior. Fred is a good boy, I am sure something came up for him to behave this way. " Mrs Don apologized and I nodded.
We walked to the dining table and ate while Sophia kept me occupied with a lot of questions. I was glad to answer them. She made me feel so special. Mrs Don was a great cook. Her stir-fried pasta and meatball was heavenly.
Although a part of me wasn't happy about how the night had turned out, I felt satisfied with the fact that Don's family had accepted me and no one would raise a brow about my closeness with their son.
I turned when I heard some muffled footsteps to see who it was. The boy I'd fallen in love with, Fred, walked in and my joy knew no bounds.
