Chapter Twenty-Nine
Lee was on the verge of collapse. “Please, sir.” she tried again, her resolve draining away along with her life. It couldn’t be over, she thought, it wasn’t fair. She had so much more to do. It couldn’t be over.
He placed a hand on her shoulder and guided her down. Tears slid across her cheeks as her knees touched the floor and Lee watched with fearful eyes as he leaned for his bag. She tilted her face up, like an obedient church-girl. He was humming lightly; had his hand lost inside the bag when the movement came from the side.
“Mother-fuckin’ w*********h!”
His pale face turned up just in time to see the hand ark down.
