Why were the Elders forcing the Alphas hands by pushing the rogue issue? Rogues were no longer a problem since that pack from the Southwest took in that rogue pup. Why did the Elders want that rogue pup to visit each of the packs? What was so special about the rogue that they insisted on pushing her upon us all? She wasn't part of my pack, even when my parents were still the Alpha and Luna. None of their members ever went rogue.
My parents had stepped down as Alpha and Luna when I turned twenty years old. It was the same year that I also inherited my father's architecture firm. By the following year, when I turned twenty one, I had tripled our pack size and set up contracts with packs all over the world, pushing my father's (now my) business into the limelight.
My name is Ryder Axel Storm, born on December 21 and I am the Alpha of the Midnight Ice Moon pack. I am the oldest unmated Alpha, at the ripe old age of 28. I had long ago given up in ever finding my mate, choosing to believe that I was being punished by the Moon Goddess for my illicit transgressions during my wild teenage years.
There was a quiet knock on my office door before the knob turned and my best friend and Beta, Jayson entered. He wore his usual business attire while conducting pack business, complete with his hair slicked back to look professional. Usually it meant he had serious business to conduct with me.
"Alpha," Jayson began, with an unusual amount of formality, "Elder Samuelson called while you were in your meeting."
"Of course he did. What did the Elder want this time?" I ran a hand over my face to try and scrub the tiredness from my expression.
"To remind you that the rogue," Jayson's face twisted into a snarl, "would be arriving in two days time."
"Ah yes, the rogue daughter of the Grey Mist Lake pack. Where was she? Which pack?" I was drumming the fingers of my left hand on the top of my desk as I sent several mind-links to the Omegas to prepare the guest room on my floor (the eighth floor) of the packhouse.
I had to play the welcoming Alpha, even if I didn't want a rogue in my territory. Not that I had a problem with rogues. Jayson, however, hated them. His little brother and sister were killed by rogues when he was only five while his family was out camping. Since then, he has made it his mission to rid the world of rogues.
"She was at the Blue Mountain pack in Washington state for the last eight months."
"Eight months?!" I interjected.
"Yes, apparently the Alpha swore she was his sons mate." Jayson continued after I interrupted.
"And was she?" I had to know. If she had found her mate, why would she be continuing on pack jumping for the next few months? It would be ridiculous for her to be separated from her mate.
"Hell no. The Alpha's son had already found his mate and had gotten her pregnant. He was just trying to keep the rogue b***h around so he could f**k her like he does his Omegas." Jayson was fuming.
"I see," my mind was trying to come to terms with an Alpha who would, or even could, cheat on his Luna.
"Look, it's no secret that I hate rogues. I will do my best to be respectful to her while she is in our territory. I may hate rogues, but my mate sees the goodness in everyone."
"Good Jayson. We don't need to cause any unrest with the Elders. Please tell Melissa to take great care with our guest. We will have her for four months and we don't want to cause any issues with any of the other packs. She must be treated like an Alpha's daughter."
"Yes Alpha," Jayson bowed his head.
I knew it was difficult for him to accept the fact a rogue wolf would be living here, in the packhouse for the next few months. I just hoped he wouldn't cause any trouble.
Jayson had found his mate, Melissa, when her and her father Alpha Matthew of the Muddy Run pack were visiting fr the yearly Alpha conference. He was 19 and she had just turned 18. Lucky bastard.
I wanted a mate more than anything. I wanted a Luna to run this pack with me. Someone to keep me in line and level-headed when my temper became too much. I needed a woman's touch with the pack.
"My father will be tending the business for the next two weeks while I get the rogue... what's her name?" I looked at Jayson.
"Her name is Evelyn."
"Right. Anyway, my father will be tending the business for two weeks while I get Evelyn settled in and introduce her to the pack. I need you to focus on any pack business that does not require an Alpha. Got it?"
"Thank you Ryder." I knew Jayson would see my reasoning for making him focus on pack business instead of the rogue... Evelyn.
I had to stop thinking of her as a rogue and needed to start using her name. I highly doubt she would appreciate it if I called her a rogue to her face.
"Make sure you tell Melissa what time Evelyn will be arriving so she can have enough time to prepare for some sort of welcome feast."
Jayson smiled, knowing his mate so well. I did too, although I didn't see her as anything but the Beta female. I often wondered how she had the energy to do everything she did while raising two pups under the age of three.
"Will there be any visits from the Elders in the near future?" Jayson asked.
He hated when the Elders visited as much as I did.
"Not until the yearly conference, but that isn't for another few months."
I hated the yearly Alpha conference. It was always held here in my territory because mine was by far the largest, along with my pack. My pack was over seven hundred and fifty members strong. The only pack to even come close only had a little over four hundred members.
I had always been questioned as to how I grew my pack so large and was still able to maintain order among everyone. No one could have guessed that it was because I actually listened to my pack. I listened to everything any of my members said. I welcomed long wolves and transfers from other packs. I expected my pack members to follow the rules I set forth and swiftly dealt out any punishments that needed to be handed out. I was considered to be one of the best Alphas because of how I ran my pack.
Everyone had a job to do in the pack. They had their day jobs, but with a pack as large as mine, it required all members to have an active role to play.
"Was there anything else you needed Jayson?" I asked, reading his body language and feeling his need to be close to his mate again.
"No Ryder. Just this forced visit of the rogue."
"You will use her name. She is to be a guest here and you will not show anything but respect to her. Do you understand?" I spoke in a low, authoritative tone of voice.
"Yes Alpha," Jayson bowed his head in a submissive motion before making a quick retreat to the door.
I sighed as I turned my attention back to my computer and the emails awaiting me that I had to get through over the next two days so I could put all my focus on Evelyn. The next two days were going to drag by. Hell, the next four months were going to drag.
Little did I know, that the rogue that had no place in any pack; that was being forced to stay here, would change my entire world.
I could feel the hum of curiosity spread throughout the pack as everyone awaited the arrival of Evelyn. All of my pack members were hoping to get a glimpse of the mysterious rogue that the Elders seemed so transfixed with. The rogue who changed history for werewolves everywhere.
The younger pups were running around the yard as the first warm day in weeks smiled upon us. The Omegas were busy following Melissa's orders to the dot. Melissa never failed to disappoint and the feast they would have later on proved to be the most eye catching yet. Melissa had every wolf in the packhouse busy preparing for tonight. The feast looked as if the Queen of England was dining here. All of the high ranking wolves were required to attend the feast because I, as their Alpha, demanded it. My parents would also be in attendance, as the former Alpha and Luna, it was required of them to show their unwavering support as their son and current Alpha.
"Ryder!" My mother exclaimed as I came down the stairs from my office.
I had just finished all of my necessary Alpha duties and made sure the guest room was ready for Evelyn for when she arrived.
"Mother," I gave her a quick peck on the cheek and a hug, "you look beautiful as always. Did you and dad enjoy your vacation? Where was it you went? Italy? Or Greece?"
"It was Italy dear. And yes, Ryder, we had such a wonderful time. It was exactly what your father and I needed to recharge. The Appenines pack was so wonderful and accommodating. Alpha Bianchi was a very generous host and invited you to come along the next time your father and I travel."
"That's wonderful mom. Where is dad?" I asked as I looked around for him.
I hadn't spotted him when I was coming down the stairs. He was not a hard man to miss, still standing over 6'3" tall and having zero gray hair. He looked like a man still in his thirties.
"Oh you know you're father. He's out playing with the pups. Says it keeps him young. You know he loves playing with them," my mom said full of affection as she glanced out the large window to catch a glimpse of her husband.
"Doesn't he think Sasha and Brent gave him enough grandpups?"
My mom gave me a look that said 'not until you give us some grand babies,' and left to go mingle with the other high ranking pack members, both former and current. I just shook my head as I glanced at the clock.
My driver should have been back by now as the clock said 6:05. Evelyn should have arrived by now. My driver was always punctual, so I was slightly concerned that they were not here yet.
As I glanced at the clock for the fourth time in ten minute, growing more anxious as each minute ticked by. As seconds seemed to drag on, the guards at the gatehouse sent a mind-link that my driver had finally arrived.
"Evelyn and my driver have finally arrived," I announced to the room.
Excited chatter immediately erupted as everyone headed outside to greet the new arrival. I stayed back, not wanting to further suffocate her by the sheer amount of pack members waiting to meet her. Nor did I want to intimidate her with my presence just yet.
I felt a hand slip across my chest to grip the back of my neck before a pair of lips were pressed against mine. A quick sniff told me it was Diedre, the latest she-wolf I let warm my bed on occasion. She pushed me into the hallway as her tongue invaded my mouth in an aggressive act. Her hands roamed across my chest, down my arms and whispered across the front of my slacks, making the bulge in my pants even more prevalent. I could feel her hardened n*****s pressing into my chest as she twitched her hips back and forth across my groin. I moaned into her mouth and grabbed a fistful of her hair as I pressed myself against her.
Her body was practically purring with the need to have me balls deep inside her p***y. I pulled her face away from mine and ran my nose along her neck, followed by my tongue. Her fingers were rubbing my hard length through my pants and I could smell her arousal, making me even harder. When she heard me moan again after she bit my bottom lip, she took it as an invitation to undo my pants.
"Diedre stop," I ordered, trying to push her away.
I couldn't have s*x with her now, not with the rogue and all of the ranked pack members standing right outside. She let a low growl slip out as she became even more aggressive. Her lips pressed against mine even more forcefully than before.
"Enough," I growled in my Alpha tone. A tone that made any pack member unable to defy me.
She immediately pulled away and pouted. I took several deep breaths and smoothed my clothes back into place as I heard the front door open. Diedre looked like she wanted to spit hellfire at the interruption, but I welcomed it.
I was assaulted with the most intoxicating scent of fresh rain, lilies and sun dried laundry. Whoever held that amazing scent wiped all thoughts of any other woman out of my mind.
Diedre was hanging all over me, in an attempt to lure my attention back to her, but I ignored her as I began to walk towards the group of wolves I heard in the front room. I needed to find whoever smelled like that.
"Ryder, come and greet your guest dear." I heard my mother yell through the crowd.
Over fifty wolves were chattering amongst themselves, blocking out any visual I may have had on either my mother or the new arrival.
"Of course mother," I spoke as the pack parted for me.
It was then that I saw her. My wolf, Xavier, was howling and begging to be closer to her. My eyes locked onto the most amazing silver-grey eyes ringed by violet, and she wasn't even looking at me. She was in a conversation with my mom and Melissa. My eyes traveled the length of her body, taking in every inch of her golden skin that was exposed.
Her hair was the color of warm honey and it was pulled up into a high ponytail. Her face was free of makeup, like most female werewolves. She didn't need any anyways, she was perfect. She was a goddess sent to Earth for me to look upon. She was a wearing a violet halter top that showed her perfectly luscious breasts, and a pair of grey skinny jeans with a pair of purple Converse.
She had to have only stood at 5'6" at the most as she barely reached the middle of my chest. I felt my wolf growling at all of the males, mated or unmated, that were very obviously checking her out. My wolf wanted to tear their eyes out make them swallow them.
'Mate!' Xavier yelled in my mind.
Mate?
My eyes shot back to her beautiful face as she finally turned to look at me. Her smile faltered as her eyes widened in surprise. I wanted to go kiss her, drag her to my room and make love to her. Instead her mouth dropped open and I swear she mouthed, or quite possibly whispered. the words 'oh fuck.'
Oh f**k indeed my beautiful mate. What was going on in that gorgeous head of hers? I didn't know, but I had definitely planned on finding out.
