ONE WEEK LATER
“WATER! I need a glass of water—NOW!” Mr. Guiller’s panicked voice echoed through the hall as he rushed down the stairs. His expression was frantic, his movements restless.
A ripple of tension spread across the room. The bustling café came to an abrupt pause as heads turned in his direction. Whispers filled the air, a few customers exchanging curious glances while others simply gaped.
I stiffened. Something was wrong.
“What is wrong with you people? I said I need a glass of water!” he snapped, his voice sharp with urgency. “Lady Saphire is gagging!”
That did it. The entire place seemed to freeze for a second before a wave of murmurs surged through the crowd.
Chloe, the woman at the counter, was quick to react. She grabbed a glass, filled it, and handed it over. Without another word, Mr. Guiller snatched it and bolted back upstairs.
I didn’t waste a second.
Abandoning what I was doing, I strode toward Hon’s office, heart pounding. The door was ajar. I pushed it open without hesitation, stepping inside.
The moment I did, every PSG in the room turned to look at me, including Mr. Guiller, who visibly stiffened.
“What are you doing here?” he demanded.
I ignored him. “Where is she?”
He hesitated. But I wasn’t waiting for an answer. My gaze darted around the office, scanning every corner, until it landed on the closed bathroom door.
Then I heard it.
The unmistakable sound of retching from inside.
My pulse quickened. I moved toward the door and knocked firmly. “Hon? Are you in there? Open up. It’s me.”
A second later, I heard the soft click of the lock turning.
I pushed the door open and slipped inside, shutting it behind me before anyone outside could protest.
The sight of her hunched over the sink made my chest tighten. She was pale, her breathing uneven. Without thinking, I dropped to my knees beside her, rubbing gentle circles on her back as she trembled slightly.
“Hon, are you okay? Does anything hurt?” My voice was laced with concern as I smoothed a hand over her back, trying to ease whatever discomfort she was feeling.
She didn’t answer right away, focusing instead on rinsing her mouth. She turned on the faucet, splashing cool water onto her face before gripping the edges of the sink and meeting my gaze through the mirror’s reflection.
Then, to my surprise, she smiled.
A soft, radiant smile. One that made my chest tighten for an entirely different reason.
She turned to face me fully, reaching for my hands and holding them between hers. Her grip was warm, steady. And then, in the softest yet most life-altering voice, she whispered—
“I’m pregnant.”
For a moment, my brain refused to process the words.
I stared at her, my expression frozen somewhere between shock and disbelief. “What?”
Her smile widened as she gave a small nod.
The weight of her words crashed over me all at once, and suddenly, everything else faded—the world outside, the murmurs, the tension. All that mattered was this moment.
A grin broke across my face as joy surged through me, uncontrollable, overwhelming. My hands cupped her face instinctively, my thumbs brushing against her warm cheeks. “Really?” I asked, almost breathless.
She nodded again.
That was all I needed.
I pulled her into my arms, wrapping her in the tightest, most protective embrace I had ever given her. My lips found her forehead, lingering there as I whispered, “God… Thank you.”
I felt her smile against my shoulder as she hugged me back, her arms tightening around me like she never wanted to let go.
And neither did I.
A little while later…
“Let’s go outside,” she murmured, still holding my hand as she looked up at me with that same glowing smile.
I squeezed her fingers gently, unable to stop my own smile from growing.
“Let’s go.”
As we stepped out of the bathroom, the stunned expressions on Mr. Guiller’s face—and those of the other PSGs—were impossible to miss. The weight of the silence pressed down on us, thick and expectant.
Hon noticed their reactions and turned to me with an amused smile before shifting her gaze back to Mr. Guiller. Her next words shattered whatever composure they had left.
“I’m pregnant, Mr. Guiller,” she announced, her voice light yet firm. “And he’s the father.”
A collective gasp rippled through the room.
Mr. Guiller’s mouth fell open, his usually composed demeanor crumbling. “But Lady Saphire… he’s just a crew member. How is that even possible?” His disbelief was palpable.
Hon’s expression darkened in an instant. “Are you insulting him?” she snapped, her voice carrying a sharp edge. “And for your information, he’s not just anyone. He’s the son of Senator Groderick Beaurlington of London.”
Silence.
Mr. Guiller’s eyes widened so much it was almost comical. He stammered, visibly rattled. “Y-Young Lady… h-he’s a B-Beaurlington?”
I took that as my cue. “Yes, I am.”
His entire frame sagged as if the weight of the world had just been dropped on his shoulders. He let out a heavy sigh, running a hand over his face.
Hon tilted her head, curiosity flickering in her gaze. “Why are you acting like that, Mr. Guiller?”
A strange hesitation crossed his features before he finally spoke. “L-Lady Saphire Okshield Ravens… d-don’t you know your family’s history?”
That piqued her interest. “History?” She frowned. “Why? Is it important?”
Mr. Guiller inhaled sharply before exhaling another weary sigh. Something about his demeanor sent an unsettling sensation crawling up my spine. It was the same reaction Jims had when he found out about Saphire and me.
“L-Lady Saphire, I will keep your relationship with the Young Master of the Beaurlingtons a secret from your father,” he said, his tone firm but rushed. “For now, it’s best if no one else knows.”
Hon’s brows furrowed. “Why are you acting so strangely, Mr. Guiller? Tell me—I order you.”
He straightened, his face unreadable. “I refuse, My Lady. And I am not the right person to tell you what you need to know.”
He turned to me next. “Young Master, who else knows about this?”
I kept my expression calm. “Just my best friend, my butler, and my PSGs.”
Another heavy sigh. “Your parents—do they know?”
Did they?
I honestly wasn’t sure. Jims might not have told them yet.
“I don’t think so,” I admitted.
Relief visibly washed over Mr. Guiller’s features. “Good,” he murmured, more to himself than to us. “I know I have no right to interfere, and I won’t. But for now, I strongly advise that neither of you inform your parents about what’s happening.”
Hon turned to me, then back to him. “Why?”
He hesitated before finally uttering, “It’s about your families’ history.”
I felt Hon’s grip on my hand tighten.
“We don’t understand, Mr. Guiller,” I said, my voice low.
His gaze held a quiet warning. “It’s better if you don’t—for now, Young Master. Some truths are like cracks in a foundation—if you dig too soon, the whole structure might collapse.”
With that cryptic remark, he turned to leave, motioning for the others to follow. But just before he stepped out, he paused.
“Young Master, may I have the contact information of your butler? I would like to have a word with him.”
I hesitated but eventually recited the number. He quickly typed it into his phone before nodding in appreciation.
“Thank you, sir.” Then, he was gone.
The moment the door shut behind them, Hon and I locked eyes.
And then, slowly, a radiant smile stretched across her lips.
“I’m pregnant, Hon,” she whispered, pure happiness in her voice as she wrapped her arms around me.
A soft chuckle escaped me as I held her close, my hand running gently through her hair. “I know,” I murmured.
She pulled back slightly, her eyes gleaming with excitement. “So, should we go for an ultrasound now?”
I brushed a strand of hair away from her face. “Let’s wait a day or two,” she suggested, her smile never fading. “Maybe the day after tomorrow?”
I nodded, leaning down to place a quick kiss on her lips. “Okay.”
She laughed lightly before playfully pushing me toward the door. “Now go. Get back downstairs. I’ll be fine.”
I frowned, reluctant. “I don’t want to leave you alone.”
She rolled her eyes. “Hon, go. If you linger any longer, they’ll start getting suspicious. Hurry up.”
I exhaled, realizing she had a point. “Fine,” I relented, pressing a lingering kiss to her cheek. “Keep your phone with you. If you need anything—anything at all—call me.”
She nodded, her smile reassuring. “I will.”
With that, I finally headed downstairs.
The moment I stepped into the main area, every gaze in the café turned to me. My crewmates. The customers. Even those just passing by seemed to pause.
I ignored them. Eventually, they lost interest and resumed what they were doing.
Spotting Rex wiping down a table, I made my way over.
He glanced up as I approached and smirked. “Hey, man. How’s your girl?”
“She’s fine,” I answered casually.
His brows lifted. “She sick? Why didn’t you take her to the hospital?”
I shook my head. “She’s not sick.”
“Then why was she gagging earlier?” His curiosity was relentless.
I stopped wiping the table and met his gaze. A slow grin tugged at my lips as I leaned in slightly. “She’s pregnant.” I kept my voice low, just enough for him to hear.
His reaction was instant. “WHAT?!”
Heads snapped in our direction.
We both turned at the same time.
“N-No! I-It’s nothing! Please, don’t mind us,” Rex stammered, forcing out a laugh as he waved off the staring crowd.
I shot him a sharp look. “Keep your voice down.”
He scanned the area, ensuring no one else was eavesdropping before turning back to me. “Are you serious? She’s really pregnant?”
I gave a small nod.
His expression turned more serious. “So… what now?”
I frowned. “What now what?”
He rolled his eyes. “I mean… are you going to introduce her to your family?”
I lowered my gaze slightly. “I don’t know, Rex. Something feels… off about all this.”
His brows knitted. “What do you mean?”
I exhaled. “When I brought her home, Jims freaked out the moment he realized she was Saphire Ravens. He looked worried—like he knew something I didn’t. And just now, when Mr. Guiller found out I’m a Beaurlington, he had the exact same reaction. It’s like… they know something we don’t.”
Rex let out a low whistle. “You think it’s some kind of corporate war?”
“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But Mr. Guiller strongly advised that we keep everything from our parents for now.”
He sighed, then flashed me a reassuring grin. “Whatever it is, man, I know you’ll get through it.”
I chuckled, shaking my head before resuming my work. But the feeling of unease remained.
Something was coming.
