Saphire’s POV
I SAT on the sofa in our living room, sipping a glass of milk. It was only four in the morning, yet I had already been awake for a while. Today was the day of my ultrasound, and Hon had promised to accompany me. Maybe that’s why I woke up so early—I was excited. So excited that even after waking up, sleep refused to claim me again.
Reaching for the remote, I decided to watch something to pass the time. Since going back to sleep wasn’t an option, I figured I might as well keep myself entertained. Then, a thought crossed my mind—should I call Hon? Would he ignore me if I did? But then again, he must be exhausted from everything that happened yesterday. I didn’t want to disturb his rest.
Sighing, I switched to HBO. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” was playing—a sci-fi classic. That should keep me occupied for a while.
I was completely engrossed in the movie when I heard soft footsteps behind me, growing louder as they neared. The momentary silence before each step turned into the familiar sound of heavy, lazy footfalls.
“Gats? You’re up early,” Ruby’s voice broke the quiet as she made her way to the kitchen.
“Yeah. I woke up at four and couldn’t fall back asleep,” I replied, keeping my eyes on the screen.
Ruby chuckled. “I think I know why. Not excited at all, huh?” she teased, her voice still thick with sleep.
I only smiled. Was I that obvious? Instead of answering, I turned back to my movie.
“Gats,” she called again, drawing my attention.
“Yeah?”
“Isn’t today the day you guys leave for Boracay?” she asked.
I nodded. “Yeah, after my ultrasound.”
“Oh, right. Well, I should get ready for work.” She stretched before heading toward the stairs.
I smiled and turned my focus back to the screen, though my excitement made it hard to concentrate.
“Well then, Gats, I’m going back to bed,” Ruby said with a yawn as she ascended the stairs sluggishly.
“Alright, sleep well,” I replied, shaking my head with amusement.
And so, I continued watching until the sun rose.
Around Eight in the Morning…
“Hon!” I squealed, throwing my arms around Pervince the moment he arrived.
“Are you ready?” he asked, holding me close.
I nodded enthusiastically.
“She’s more than ready,” Ruby chimed in from the staircase. “She’s been awake since four in the morning.”
Perv’s brow furrowed as he turned to me. “Is that true?” Concern laced his voice.
I chuckled sheepishly, scratching the back of my head. “I just couldn’t fall back asleep.”
He smirked and playfully pinched my cheek. “Excited much?”
“Ugh! Stop that!” I swatted his hand away, laughing as he did the same.
“Have you eaten?” I asked him.
“Yeah, just finished. What about you?” he asked in return.
“Same here.”
“Great. Shall we go?” he asked, extending his hand toward me.
“Let’s go.”
We were about to leave when he suddenly stopped. “Wait, have you packed?”
I nodded. “Did it last night.”
Just as we stepped outside, we saw Mr. Guiller arriving with the rest of the PSG team. They had left early this morning for an errand, as Lilia had mentioned earlier. Seeing us, they all came to a halt and gave a respectful bow.
“Good morning, Lady Saphire… young master,” they greeted.
“Mr. Guiller,” Perv started.
“Yes, young master?” the PSG leader inquired.
“I’ll take care of Saphire. No need to worry,” Perv assured him.
A knowing smile graced Mr. Guiller’s lips, and I couldn’t help but return the gesture.
“Of course, young master,” he responded with a nod.
“Alright then, we’ll be on our way,” Perv said before ushering me into the car. Once I was settled, he slid into the driver’s seat, and we were off.
“There it is!”
I lay on the hospital bed, my hand firmly intertwined with Hon’s as we both watched the ultrasound monitor. The screen displayed the words ‘DAWEI – Color Doppler Ultrasound 3D/4D Medical Machine.’
The OB-GYN gently moved the probe across my abdomen, scanning the image on the screen.
“And there’s the little hero,” she added.
I turned to Hon, my eyes wide with amazement and joy. His expression mirrored mine—filled with awe and happiness.
“Oh, God!” I gasped, squeezing his hand. “Hon!”
Without hesitation, he leaned down and pressed a kiss to my lips, smiling against them.
“I know, I know,” he murmured, brushing his fingers through my hair before turning his gaze back to the screen.
“Does this all happen so fast?” he asked the doctor, his curiosity getting the best of him.
The OB-GYN chuckled at his expression. “Yes… incredibly fast.”
“How fast, exactly?” he inquired, his brows furrowing.
I giggled at his eagerness, but before I could say anything, he gently covered my mouth, signaling me to stay quiet. The doctor laughed at his antics.
“Well, by your next ultrasound, during the first trimester, you’ll be able to see the heartbeat. In the second trimester, you'll be able to see the arms and legs. And the heart will be more developed, and before you know it, your baby will be keeping you up at night,” she explained, smiling.
Perv’s jaw dropped slightly. He didn’t say anything, but I could tell he was utterly amazed. I just smiled at him.
“It’s pretty incredible,” the OB-GYN added.
A moment later, he turned back to me, beaming. He mouthed “Wow,” though no words came out. His excitement was contagious.
“Would you like a picture?” the doctor offered. “It’s a great keepsake.”
“Oh… s-sure,” Hon answered before I could. Excited much?
The doctor pressed a few buttons on the machine, then handed me a tissue to wipe off the cool gel from my abdomen. Moments later, the ultrasound picture printed out.
“Here you go,” she said, handing it to me.
Smiling, I took it and passed it to Hon. The way his eyes lit up upon seeing it made my heart melt.
“I’m pasting this in my journal,” he said, utterly delighted.
He helped me sit up, and just as I adjusted my clothes, he stole another kiss—brief yet tender.
“So… I’ll see you both in six weeks?” the doctor asked.
“Of course. Thank you so much,” I replied warmly.
“Thank you, doc,” Hon added, shaking her hand.
Once she left the room, we were alone. For a moment, we simply gazed at each other, sharing a silent conversation filled with unspoken promises and love.
“We’ll get through this, together,” he whispered, cupping my face gently.
“I’ll get us through it,” I countered, placing my hands on his cheeks.
His grin widened mischievously before he kissed me again, deep and lingering. My eyes fluttered shut as I savored the moment, my heart swelling with love.
When we finally pulled away, he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Let’s head to Boracay. We’ll take the jet—no point in wasting time with commercial flights.”
“Whose jet?” I asked, arching a brow as I adjusted my outfit.
“Ours,” he said smoothly, taking my hand as we walked out.
Later, as we boarded the jet, I spotted Mr. Guiller and Jims overseeing our luggage. After saying my goodbyes to my PSGs and reassuring them that I’d be fine, I stepped inside with Hon.
The jet ascended, and soon, we were airborne. The excitement of the day eventually caught up to us, and before we knew it, we drifted into sleep, dreaming of the journey ahead.
