CHAPTER TEN I recognized Brian’s blue Taurus as I looked out my window and saw him pull up. He hurried up the walk checking around him and then tapped quickly at the door. I opened it, and he rushed in. “Brian, what’s wrong?” His eyes were narrowed, his face haggard. I saw a day’s growth of stubble covering his chin. “Pardon me, Lauren. I have to check for cameras.” He made his way through the rooms checking in corners and high and low spaces. I followed him, not knowing what to do. “All’s clear,” he finally said. “What’s going on?” “I have to make sure this place isn’t bugged. Lauren, I need a big favor. I have a suitcase in the car.
