Chapter 16

739 Words

CHAPTER SIXTEEN The flashback faded. I was grown up in my After-Patty room, and my cell phone was buzzing. I thought it was Rick canceling our date, but when I looked at it, I saw it was Brian. I felt a pang of guilt that I hadn’t contacted him since I’d been home. “Hi, Brian. Sorry I haven’t called you. I’ve been busy.” “No worries, Lauren. I’m just checking in. Everything’s fine here. I guess whoever’s spooking you at Memory Makers got the message.” “I called Dr. Murray before I left. He wasn’t pleased about my going, so I guess he’ll be happy that I’ll be back by Monday.” “Did you find your cat?” “More than that. We found the kidnapped boy.” I related the whole story, feeling more comfortable telling him than I would my mother. I left out the part of my going to dinner with Rick.
