Reeve
The moment we arrived at the driveway of her residence, we could see the big mansion. It looked unkempt from the outside and if the driveway was an indication, her words seemed to be true after all. It means that she was telling the truth and that she didn't exaggerate when she said that her family was poor.
The mansion looked gloomy, it looked like it had seen better days. The vast land that surround it should've been beautiful, it was a groundskeeper's dream to have spacious land to work with.
"Let me come in first, okay? Oh, and I would really appreciate it if you didn't tell my parents that we met at a club. They think I was out hanging out with my friends. Can you do that?" She looked at us with a raised brow, damn...she's definitely going to keep us on our toes.
"I'm not sure lying to your parents is a good thing. Do you really want your future husbands to lie to your family?" I asked knowing I hit a nerve making her scowl cutely.
"How about we skirt around it? We don't have to lie unless they ask, okay?" Tristan, the ever-loving peace-keeping man that he is was actually given her an out. Though I don't really think it was an out. The man has his way with words, maybe it's his long hair, yet the knowledge still amazed me.
"Okay, I guess," our beautiful omega reluctantly agreed.
Kathrine got out of the car without letting one of us open the door for her. It was her little way of showing us her rebellious side. Tristan was right, we were going to have a great time breaking our little omega.
"Do you want me to do the talking?" Tristan asked, knowing that I might get rough when things didn't go my way. It was one of the things I lacked. Patience.
"It's okay. I will start the introduction, but feel free to step in when things need interference. You know me, you've been by my side since we were kids."
The man chuckled as we followed Kathrine towards the mansion.
"Okay, both of you wait here, we don't have a butler to open the door anymore. I need to go to the side entrance. We only use the left wing now." She said it in such a hurry that we barely caught on with her words. Surely she didn't need to open the front door for us when we could go with her and enter through the side door. But before I could say anything she was gone.
"Let her, Reeve. I think she needs time to process what she was going to say about us coming to claim her."
"Right, or she decides to make a run for it. Do you think she played us? Do you think she made a run for it and actually took us to some abandoned mansion?"
Tristan laughed telling me that I needed to stop watching scary movies. "I think I can read her well enough to know that she was telling the truth. Besides, have you seen the driveway and the road we passed going here? Even if she decided to make a run for it, don't you think she'll have a hard time walking back to the main road?"
"Okay, you have a point there, so I guess we wait."
"Yup, and don't forget Garth got her friends home, so we can always kidnap her friends and demand her whereabouts." Tristan winked and I instantly felt relief washing over me. It was a weird feeling, I'd never felt this strongly toward one person before, and looking at Tristan, I knew I was not the only one.
"Okay...okay, I know you're the sensible one between us."
We didn't get to wait long when the heavy door opened in front of us. The moment we stepped deeper past the heavy doors, I saw a dimmed hallway lit by candles and the cold, earthy, moldy smell hit my senses instantly.
"Reeve, Tristan, please come in," Kathrine politely let us into her family home. She led us through the foyer and into what looked like a great room. It feels like it hadn't been aired for years. Just like she said, it probably hadn't been used for some time and I honestly didn't know what to say about the condition that her family was living in. I know our kind had it turned from bad to worse after the Great War making some families have difficulties in bouncing back financially. We tried to help out among our people and reach out to those who needed help. I was not sure about the situation with the Holloways. However, I was determined to find out why. I looked at Tristan and my dearest friend nodded as if he could read my mind.
"Mom, Dad these are Reeve and Tristan. They would like to talk to you." She shrugged after the informal introduction, clearly, she was raised in a more relaxed family situation and I was silently glad for it since that meant Tristan and I could approach our intention more forwardly.
"Reeve, Tristan, these are my parents, Dempsey and Malia Holloway."
"Sir, my name is Reeve Whitaker and this is Tristan Bainbridge, we are here to claim your daughter Kathrine Holloway as our omega, our mate." I held out my hand to him and the man took my hand before he froze the second my words caught up with his brain.
"Wait...both of you?" He raised an eyebrow at us. The similarity between Kathrine and her dad was too uncanny as I took in every little detail that I could.
"I know Whitaker, you're one of the families with the strongest Alpha bloodline in existence, and Bainbridge your family consists of mostly Betas. What is the meaning of this? Is this some kind of joke? I know we're poor but we're not that desperate. You both should go before you upset my wife." Mr. Holloway, put his hand around his wife and pulled her close and she started to look at me then Tristan, then to our sweet Kathrine.
"Sir, I assure you we are not joking," Tristan said calmly, and I decided to let my best friend talk. Maybe he could ease them into the idea that we were serious about claiming Kathrine as our omega.
"We are going to talk to our elders tonight, Reeve, and I know that it has been decades since the traditional mating ceremony was held. But tonight, the second we recognized your daughter, both Reeve and I recognized her as our mate. So, yes, we are serious." He ended his words by looking at Kathrine and then nodded at me, in respect as one Beta would to his Alpha. Obviously, this was a thing we do when needed, though in actuality I always treated Tristan as my equal and so will our future mate, no matter what society expects us to be.
"Talk to your elders, and see if they approve of the mate you chose before you go through with the ceremony. Then you can come back and we'll talk. I am not going to let my daughter be taken by two men, not even when they came from the oldest families of Alphas and Betas. Yes, I know the Whitaker and Bainbridge. I'm sure your elder knows about the Holloway. Talk to them." That was all he said when he showed us the door and Kathrine was ushered by her Mom back into the house. Mr. Holloway shut the door after us and what was supposed to be an easy task was proven not so easy anymore.
"Okay, that went well," I muttered as I entered the car.
"There's something he's not telling us. We need to gather facts before talking to our elders. I feel like we need to know about our family history and the Holloway's. Something is telling me that he's not very fond of our families." Tristan voiced out his thoughts while I listened.
This was why he had always been the one who I bounced ideas with, why we came into businesses together. While I always brave myself and jumped into new ventures, Tristan reeled me back in. He had been the voice of rationality, the one person who gets and manages to keep me from making rash decisions and creating unnecessary mistakes.
"Or maybe he's just not fond of our family, maybe he's one of those people."
"Maybe, but we still need to search it up."
"Ugh...ever the thinker, I hate when you are being logical."
"Yet, you let me sway you into seeing things my way."
"You always make a damn good argument."
"And you always stood by my words even when other Alphas were against me."
"Pfft...those Alphas didn't know what they were talking about."
Our conversation carried on until we arrived back at our place. Yes, Tristan and I lived together aside from working together. Sometimes we had s*x with a third, sometimes we didn't. Either way, we always ended up together in our bed. Our families know that we lived together, but no one knows that we shared a bed. Someday they will know, but until then, we keep our privacy to ourselves.
"So where do you want to start?"
