“What’s wrong, babe?” The girl that was previously at Emma’s side inched closer, interlocking her arm with Liam’s.
We had not even started classes and this was happening. So much for my plan to be invisible.
Liam only moved his shoe forward for the girl to understand. She gasped before she glared at me.
“Clean his shoe, are you nuts?” She yelled at me and I finally got on my knees again and wiped his shoe with my fingers.
He didn’t let me do a thorough job before he pulled his shoe away and walked past me. Emma followed, shoving me with her shoulder as she made her way.
Liam’s younger brothers stood in front of me, one of them leaning towards me to whisper a threat into my ear.
“You have been marked. See you around.” They both smirked before they followed Liam, Emma and the other girl.
Once they were gone, I could finally breathe. I held my chest as everyone finally started talking.
I did not even feel like being in this room anymore. I was beyond exhausted now. I just needed to get to my dorm and hide from everyone.
I found the email that was sent to me yesterday with my dorm room details. Room 403. I was on the fourth floor.
I took one of the elevators and walked till I found my dorm room. I used my key card and walked in. As soon as I did, I had to stop.
What the heck?
I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. This was not a dorm room, this was a literal apartment.
The door suddenly opened and in walked a girl with caramel skin, short, curly hair and striking red lips.
Her brown eyes glowed as she looked around and gasped.
“I’m so sorry, I’m just…”
She lacked words.
“Shocked, amazed, marveled?” I gave her options and she nodded her head.
“All of the above. What is this place?” She screamed, taking her heels off before she ran deeper into the room.
I decided to take my shoes off too before following her.
We had a full kitchen and living room right at the entrance and then the bedroom was at the very end, with the bathroom door on the right side of the bedroom. Everything looked so luxurious. It felt like I had just moved into a high grade apartment.
We had a view of the city and the beautiful, green mountains that I had already fallen in love with.
I suppose I have already met my roommate too.
“Hazel?” I asked, confirming that she is indeed my roommate.
“Kiara?” She asked back and then we both nodded our heads.
Instinctually, we both squealed at the same time and held each other's hands before spinning around in a circle.
No way this was actually my life. Did I just make a friend?
“This is the kind of luxury our parents paid for! I love my parents!” Hazel yelled before she pulled her phone out and started taking pictures.
“Pose!” She suddenly pointed it to me and I smiled awkwardly.
“I am sending these to my mum. She is going to love you! Look at how shy and well behaved you look!” She began texting and I jus felt awkward.
Right, other people actually had normal relationships with their parents.
“Aren’t you going to show your mum too?” She asked and I froze.
“Wait.. is she…dead?” She looked mortified.
“No, no. Come, let’s take a selfie.” I took a picture of us and some of the room too before reluctantly sending them to my mother.
She opened them immediately.
“My mother says you are the cutest thing ever!” She showed me the heart eyed sticker that she sent as well and I found myself smiling. Her mother liked me?
When I turned to my own phone, my smile was immediately wiped away.
“One blackout and you’re out of that school!” That was all she could say. She really had nothing sweet to say to me. She could at least ask me how I am adjusting but no, nothing like that.
“We are not paying seven times the amount we would be paying for the city college just so you can create a bad reputation in a new place. Does the poor girl know you could kill her too?”
Too? Who else did I kill according to her own knowledge?
Breathe, Kiara, Breathe
I fought back the tears.
“Let me see what your mum said!” Hazel reached for my phone and I quickly put it away.
“She said you’re pretty.” I lied and she didn’t look convinced but she just smiled.
“Okay. Enough about our parents I guess!”
She threw herself over one of the beds and screamed again.
“dibs!” She yelled and I just laughed.
“You can have it. I love this side of the room. I am closer to the bathroom.” She sat up, shrugging her shoulders.
“I don’t care about the bathroom. I just think I will have great s*x here!” She winked at me and I could not believe how blunt she was being.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Don’t tell me… virgin?” Her brows arched and one froze.
What should I say?
“No?” I did not sound very confident.
“Yup! You’re a virgin!” She shook her head at me.
“Don’t worry. I am giving you a month at most. You will lose that precious hymen!” She sounded so sure.
Me?
I couldn’t even imagine it.
“I just want to study.” I said to her and she laughed immediately.
“That’s what they all say. You’ll see that I was right sooner or later. There are people from all over the world at this school. If you have a specific type, you will find him here!” She insisted and I decided to let her think she has won the argument for now.
“You are exactly what I thought you were when I saw you trembling in front of Liam Sterling.” She laughed and I cringed to my last bone.
I did not want to think about that right now.
“And what would that be?” I asked her nervously.
“Clueless! But it’s okay, you have me now and I know everything there is to know!” She winked.
“Those five are the members of the Sterling Wolves Club. They are the originals. They have never allowed a new member even though they run trials every year. They run the entire school. You can’t bump into them, especially not Liam Sterling.” She made it extra clear.
So this is the kind of life Emma was living and hiding from our parents and Quinn and I. I see why she would think being associated with me would be the end of her life.
“Let’s go take a walk! There’s a beautiful footpath right in front of the dorm buildings and the Sterling mansion. Let’s just go look around.” I did not want to be convinced but eventually, Hazel Wood won and I found myself gawking at the three story house that Emma supposedly lives in while she is here.
“I hope I will be invited there one day!” Hazel was looking at the mansion with so much awe.
“Honestly, why is everyone obsessed with the Sterlings and that house?” I felt foolish for asking but I was tired of hearing about it all day.
“You crazy girl! Do you even read the school blog?” She asked and my brows furrowed. Now I felt like an i***t.
“Oh my god, you are unbelievable! Give me your phone. We are singing you up.”
I handed her the phone and she kept moving back and forth through my apps.
“Where is it? I need your BerryFeed account to sign you in.”
“I don’t use social media.” I said to her and she looked at me like I was crazy.
“Now you do!” She began the whole process of creating an account for me. She chose a random picture of me in my gallery and used it as my profile picture.
“Hazel, I don’t need the blog.” I tried convincing her as she began searching for a picture of me to post.
“You need the blog! How else will you know what the theme for tonight’s welcome party is?” She arched her brows and I just sighed, admitting defeat.
“You are still going through the review process but you will be allowed to join. Let’s check mine in the meantime.” She insisted.
“Do I need to go to the party?” I asked and she looked at me like I was a lunatic, yet again.
“Tonight, Liam Sterling will be choosing ten first year students to be part of his party entourage. That is the first step for being able to qualify as a new member!”
“So I don’t need to go, right?” Please say yes! I need to avoid the Sterlings at all costs.
“Everyone has to go. They will be searching the whole school to make sure we are all there. You better look real pretty if you want to be chosen!” Hazel winked.
This school was turning out to be nothing like I expected.
Now, I was going to have to be close to those Sterling brothers again!
