CHAPTER SEVEN The rain seemed lovely at first. In the fall, raindrops are greeted, like old friends after a long hot summer. This early spring rain however, had overstepped all the boundaries and was overstaying any welcome. The rivers had flooded, some of the older bridges had washed out and several roads were closed. Gray skies had blocked the sun for what seemed like endless weeks. Potholes had developed all along the main highway through town, and even sinkholes big enough to swallow cars had opened up on urban streets. Many small homes on the outskirts of town had flooded. Animal rescue teams were busy hauling away livestock and horses. Linda didn’t like it one bit.
