CHAPTER NINE Beyond exhausted, Linda pretended to sleep, while her mind mulled over ways to reach Eric. Every imaginary road made her feel like a hamster in a maze; one where she cowered hopelessly at several dead ends. Finally, around three in the morning, after tossing and turning and listening to whispered sob stories of other flood victims, she had a kernel of an idea. The guy at the door of the Bootstrap Bar and Grill, acted like a friend of Eric’s, maybe he would have a phone number. At daybreak she fell asleep thinking about the rustic place where the two of them had danced, and shared memorable kisses. Rays of sunlight pierced through tiny windows at the top of the gymnasium.
