The sound of the front door unlocking alerted me of my best friend’s arrival. I heard a soft knock on my door a few seconds later. “come in!” I shouted across my shoulder as I completed the last few words of the chapter I was revising. “hey girl. You were studying the whole day? Did you have anything to eat after that coffee this morning?” Ro asked in a soft motherly voice as she made her way towards my study desk where I sat with my eyes darting back and forth from my textbook to my notebook as I made notes of my revision. “yes and no." I placed a full-stop on my last sentence, closed the notebook and turned to face Ro. " yes, I was studying the whole time and no, I didn’t take anything besides that coffee this morning. Too much revision and assignments.” I replied “T! Its 6pm and you’re still running on an empty stomach? How am I having a hard time believing that?” Ro replied. She was right. I’m someone who needed food every 10 minutes. I am always hungry! Food is my first love in a way. Sighing I replied “I know.. It’s just that that acceptance letter... A month ago it was just a online Veterinary Nursing course and now it’s a university degree on veterinary medicine! I feel like that’s a huge step. Like am I even ready? That’s 2 times the revision plus school lessons, homework, practical’s and that too for 5 years! Is it happening too fast? That to with Daisy!? Would I be able to be there for her with so much on my plate? I just don’t want her to be lacking mother’s love which is why I became her mum after mum.” “Woah whoa!! Hold your horses! Where is this even coming from? ‘Go with the flow. Everything happens for a reason” Remember that? Those were YOUR words. It’s time to take your own advice! Relax! I’m going to make you something small okay? We can order some Chinese when Dave comes over in an hour! Besides I think Daisy is more than lucky to have you as her mum. You’re her sister Tash, but still she thinks you’re her mum. She doesn’t just call you mum for nothing. She means it. I know she does. Now get up and go freshen up!” Ro was right. I needed to calm down. I was trying my best to provide for Daisy like a mother and in order to provide the best for her I needed to be in the best situation. I took in a deep breath and got up from my chair. My back ached from sitting too long. 9 hours to be exact! I stretched and walked over to my wardrobe. I looked through my clothes and decided to go with an oversized sweatshirt that belonged to Bear once and some leggings. I then opened my bedroom door and shouted across the hall that I was going to take a bath. Ro acknowledged my call and proceeded to tell me that she was making avocado toast. I shouted back an ok and the thought of food made my stomach rumble but I ignored it for the time being and made my way to my washroom and ran myself a warm bath and by warm I meant almost boiling. I played some relaxing music and got into the tub after stripping off my clothes. The warm water touched my sore muscles relaxing them almost instantly. I slowly felt myself falling asleep. I was awoken by a knocking on my bathroom door. “Tash? You alright babe? It’s been 30 minutes.” Ro’s concerned voice echoed outside my bathroom door. “Yeah. I’m ok. I’ll be out in a bit.” I replied as I took in my surroundings. The once warm water I once sat in was now ice cold. I lifted my hands and pushed back the hair that was covering my eyes. My fingers looked like prunes. I got out of the tub and realized that my hair was dripping wet. “Great! Now I’ll have to wash my hair!” I cursed aloud. I stepped into the shower that was right next to the tub. I had a relatively big bathroom that had a tub, a shower room and a good sized sink with a mirror that could easily fit 2 people. I turned the shower on to hot and rinsed the cold water out of my hair. I quickly grabbed the shampoo bottle and squeezed a good amount of soap. The smell of apple filled the air as I lathered my hair, enjoying the delicious smell at the same time and rinsed it off. With my eyes shut I then aimed and blindly felt around until I found what felt like a bottle of conditioner. I opened the bottle and the smell of vanilla filled my nostrils letting me know that I have hit the bull’s eye and picked up the right bottle.I conditioned my hair and rinsed my eyelids so I could open my eyes. I had 15 minutes to spare so I allowed my mind to wonder a little. After a while, I looked up towards the sink where I had my tablet with music playing. It had been around 10 minutes. Not having the patience and time to wait I decided it was time to wash off the conditioner. After washing off the conditioner I stepped out of the shower and closed the glass door.I grabbed the towel hanging on the metal rod that was situated behind the bathroom door. I dried my body and bent forward to wrap the towel around my head. I then grabbed my clothes and threw them on. I unwrapped the towel from around my head and begin to towel dry it as I made my way towards the mirror. I quickly brushed through the tangles in my hair while cursing at myself for falling asleep. I was going to be late for movie night. The time was 6.30pm which meant Bear was going to be here in 30 minutes. After wrestling with my hair for a good few minutes I switched off the music playing on my tablet and walked out of the bathroom and towards my window. I hung my towel to dry and turned towards my bed. Cuddles was chewing on his toy on my bed. Cuddles had been on my bed ever since I put him there. He was knocked out while I studied. he must have gotten up while I was showering and decided he wanted his toy. The toy squeaked loudly as Cuddles bit into it making me giggle at his enthusiasm. I gave Cuddles a good pet and played with him for a bit then proceeded to make my way to the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen to see Ro dancing around to her favorite Christmas song ‘All I want for Christmas’ Ro looked up at me and winked. I walked towards the kitchen island bobbing my head to the music. when the chorus hit ro and me faced each other and shouted the lyrics at the top of our lungs. “IS YOUUU!” We sang in our horrible sounding voices as we pointed at each other and the burst out laughing. I started dancing with her until the entire song came to an end. It was the middle of October but it’s never too early to get into the Christmas spirit! The smell of freshly baked cookies filled my nostrils and I dashed towards the oven like a child and grinned as I watched a batch of Ro's famous chocolate chip cookies rise in the oven and take shape. I ran to Ro and gave a tight hug. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I rushed as I squashed her tightly. "Love you too. Now get off me! you're cutting off my oxygen!" leave it to Ro to spoil a emotional moment. Ro was the kind of person who didn't like getting emotional. in fact she always loved to make people smile with her weird antics. Still, i wouldn't change her for the world. She always knew just what i needed. Be it cookies to cheer me up or de-stress me or a good scolding to get me in line. she was always there. Bear and Ro were the only family i had besides Daisy If it weren't for them i seriously won't be what i am today. I laughed as i pulled away from our hug or rather while i was literally being pried off Ro by Ro herself.
