Chapter 2: A Dangerous Attraction

755 Words
Alexander POV After the final course had been served and the soft murmur of conversation began to wane, Alexander excused himself from Veronica's side. He lingered for a moment, studying the fading conversation with a calculating glint in his eyes. His mind churned with a secret plan-- he had grown tired of Veronica's constant possessiveness, and tonight he decided to use Lily's natural allure to get the upperhand. "Excuse me for some minutes", he murmured to Veronica with a practiced, disarming smile before slipping out through a discreet door. As he strode down the quiet corridor, his heart pounded--not solely with desire but with a strategic determination. Striding the corridor, Alexander's mind churned with calculated detachment. He caught sight of Lily near the service area-- her jet black hair cascading naturally over her shoulders, her face unadorned and refreshingly genuine. As he continued to walk towards the corridor, every step he took seemed to command the attention of those around him. Heads turned and hushed whusphers-a group of elegantly dressed patrons paused their conversation to admire the confident grace of the man in the impeccably tailred suit. Some even offered discreet nods of approval, their eyes lingering on the sculpted features and magnetic presence that defined a Bling. With an air of self-assured superiority, he continued toward the service area where his paln awaited. But even as he admired her, he reminded himself with a cold inner voice: i dont really care for her. This is a manuever to send a message to Veronica. Leaning casually against the counter, he called out in a tone that blended charm with arrogance,"Excuse me". When Lily approached, he offered a slight, practised smile--a smile that masked his true indifference. "Good Evening", she greeted softly, steadying herself against the unexpected attention. Lily's heart fluttered as she absorbed his words. There was something captivating in his confident tone, even if it carried an edge of pride. Alexander's eyes glittered with a mix of amusement and stsrategic intent as he replied, "You know, in my world, beauty is rarely this raw and unflitered. Its almost refreshing to see someone who doesnt need all the trappings tos mhine". His voice carried the unmistakable edge of entitlement. Every word was choosen to flatter her just enough to spark intrest while ensuring that, in his mind, she remained nothing more than a pawn in his plan. As Lily's cheeks warmed at his compliment, Alexander leaned in slightly and lowered his voice to a playful murmur." Honestly, Lily, you're unlike anyone i've met". Lily's heart smiled. His praise, through smooth and alluring, felt oddly rehearsed. Still, for that moment, she allowed herself to feel special, basking in the unexpected attention of someone his stature. Veronica POV From her Vantage point near the entrance, Veronica watched the interaction with burning eyes. The way Alexander's attention shifted easily from her to Lilly was like knife twisting in her chest. His deliberate cahrm was not lost on her--every compliment, every subtle touch was a calculated move mean to wound her pride. Veronica's mind raced with jealousy and close to Lily, whispering those carefully chosen words, she was losing him, and he was doing it on purpose. Even as he continued to exchange polite, flirtatious banter with Lily, Alexander's mind remained a battleground of strategy and suppressed indifference. Lily POV Lily knew she should walk away. Alexander Bling was trouble—rich, engaged, and completely out of her league. Yet, as he stood so close, his touch lingering against her skin, she found herself frozen. “You shouldn’t be here,” she whispered, her breath uneven. “I shouldn’t want to be here,” he countered, his voice low, almost dangerous. She took a step back, forcing herself to break free from whatever strange pull he had over her. “You’re engaged,” she reminded him, crossing her arms. A flicker of something—frustration?—passed through his gaze. “A business arrangement. Nothing more.” Lily let out a dry laugh. “Does your wife know that?” His jaw tightened. “Veronica knows what she needs to know.” She shook her head. “Look, I’m just a waitress. You’re a billionaire with a fiancée. Whatever this is? It can’t happen.” Alexander didn’t move. “You’re right.” She exhaled in relief—until he added, “But that doesn’t mean I’ll stop wanting it to.” Lily turned on her heel, walking away before she did something reckless. She couldn’t afford to play with fire.
