The ride back to Alpha Kael’s mansion was quiet. Harry kept his eyes on the road as he hummer a tune in his head and tapped his fingers on his knees to the tune, Kael had his face turned to the window as he preferred to do and Zara, quietly finished up some work on her phone. When she was done, she raised her head up and ran her eyes between the awfully quiet men in the car; Harry at the front and Kael next to her, the driver inclusive. She clicked off her phone screen. “Just to be clear, we are driving to the Alpha’s house, right? This Alpha next to me.” Zara asked no one in particular. The driver looked up at her from the rear view mirror briefly and returned his eyes to the road. “Yes, that is where we are headed,” responded Harry. “Is there a problem?” Zara shook her head. “No, no problem. Only that you all are behaving as if you are taking me to be murdered or worse, sacrificed. But just in case that is what is to happen, tell my niece I gave her everything I’ve ever owned.” Kael turned his face slightly to her. “Nobody is sacrificing anyone.” “Not you at least.” Harry chipped in gingerly and raised his hands in a mock surrender when Kael glared at him. Zara turned fully to Kael, “Oh, I’m glad to know you notice someone next to you.” Her lips curved up in a big smile as she stretched her hand to Kael. “It is nice to finally meet you officially, Alpha Kael, my father has told me a lot about you.” “Your Father told you about your Alpha?” Harry asked, stressing on every pronoun. “No, of course not.” Zara should her head without taking her eyes off Kael. “I’ve sorry known about our Alpha, I heard about everything he’s done; the good and the things people consider evil of bad, but I’ve been away from the pack for so long that I almost lost touch with my home for a minute.” Harry’s lips stretched wider. “You are back home and here now, that’s all that matters, with enough time to learn about your Alpha, personally, this time.” Zara finally turned away from Kael and sat back in her seat. “It appears so.” She said quietly but loud enough that Kael caught it as she returned Harry’s smile in mirror while fixing her hair. Her bangles clinked together at the movements. Kael kept his eyes on her before slowly turning away. ‘Beautiful, right!’ Harry asked through the mind link. Without looking back at him, Kael squeezed his eyes shut and shoved Harry away from his head, disconnecting the link. Harry brows furtowed in the mirror but Kael wasn’t looking. Zara’s eyes followed the big green gates pull apart as the car rolled into a stop in front of the building. Without any physical reaction, she took in everything her eyes could catch as they stepped out of the car. Kael started into the building without saying a word. “This way, Ms. Fitzgerald.” Harry pointed to the path Kael had followed. “Please, Zara is fine.” She dropped before closing after Kael, leaving Harry to chase after them. Jasmine and roses. The scent wafted through Kael’s nose immediately he stepped foot in the mansion. He paused and took in a deep breath before hurrying into the house as his eyes searched for Elara. The headeache he had been nursing since morning was gone and it’s place was that usual lightness Kael felt after having an episode. The scent got thicker the deeper he walked into the house. He stopped at the dinning table, the scent got thicker as his head began to get fuzzy. He shook his head slightly but the scent wasn’t letting up. Zara dragged in a deep breath behind him and exhaled loudly causing Kael to turn to her. “Interesting.” “What is interesting?” Kael asked suspiciously. He wanted to know if she perceived the same thing he did and if it affected her too. He wanted to know if she could see that he was suffering. “That smell” Zara’s eyes followed Kael’s hand as it began rubbing at his temples slowly. “I don’t know if it’s a flower or a fruit, like lavender or…” she snapped her fingers. “Ah-ha! Lemon. I think they are making a lemon cake somewhere in this house.” Immediately, the connecting back door to the dinning room opened and Elara and another maid walked in, both carrying a cake. Just like it came, the scent grew weak before slowly fading off. Kael sucked in a deep breath as he dropped into his seat, he was lightheaded and was beginning to grow dizzy. He placed his elbows on the table and carried his head in his hands as he tied to recollect himself. “Is that lemon cake?” Zara asked the ladies. Elara nodded. “Yes. Would you like a slice?” “Please.” She replied as she pulled out the seat by Kael’s left. “Okay.” “You are not meant to serve in the kitchen.” Elara paused in her track and turned back to Kael -his head was still in his hands- as Harry finally joined them in the room. “I…I didn’t have… I couldn’t stay without helping.” “Sit down.” He ordered without looking up. “And don’t make me repeat myself.” Instead of sitting next to Harry, Elara rounded the table and sat next to Zara. Zara gave her a soft smile. “You are not one of the maids?” Zara whispered to her. Elara fixed the scarf around her neck. “No. You’d be surprised to find out.” Zara nodded once. “I think I am to be his wife.” Elara’s eyes widened in surprise and Zara nodded. “We will see how that goes. I’m Zara, Zara Fitzgerald.” “Elara,” her voice came out barely above a whisper and she cleared her throat. “Elara Bouchier.” Zara gave her a soft smile before looking away. The other maid that had brought in the cake with Elara came back in a cut them each a slice. Kael leaned against the backrest with his arms folded, Harry ate his slice gingerly and Elara played with the fork in her hand. Zara pulled her plate closer to her then turned to Elara. “Do you bath with Jasmine or roses scented soap, Elara?” Elara’s brows were furrowed as she shook her head. “No. Why?” “Hmm. Nothing. I just smell roses.” Kael’s head snapped to her.
