Chapter Four

“I know we’ve normally done Shakespearean scenes for our warmups, but I had a student send a play they wrote for a contest, and they won. I was very intrigued by the story line, I wanted to do a scene from it to get us started on romantic dramas.” Professor Minx says as she passes out pages. I smile; I love theater. Everything about it make me feel warm. Professor Minx hands me my copy of the scene and I read through it. My smile drops. Oh no. A kissing scene, I think to myself. “Alright. So, I want everyone to get with your warmup partner. I am going to pick one set of partners to perform this at the end of class!” I look around and as everyone is pairing off, I saw Mikah smile at me. I blushed a little bit knowing we were probably going to have to kiss. “Hey, ready to practice this?” He asks holding up his copy as he walks up to me. “Absolutely!” I smile. *** “Alright! There’s twenty mins left in class, and I have decided on who is going to perform!” The room got quiet in anticipation. “Mikah and Jade. Please step on to the platform!” I felt everything in my body turn cold. Mikah takes my hand and leads me to the performing platform. “Take a deep breath. It’s okay.” Mikah whispers to me. I take a deep breath and nod. “Quickly, the scene is set in Britain. Jade is Anna Beth, the daughter of a British Soldier and Mikah is Connor, the American who’s been in Britain for school. Anna Beth just found out Connor was leaving to go back to America,” Minx states. Mikah clears his throat and says his line. “Anna, I’m sorry. I really do wish I didn’t have to go.” “I don’t want to hear it Connor,” I say almost surprised at how perfect the accent is coming from my mouth, “I shouldn’t have heard it from her of all people. You know how I feel about her.” “She was just a friend until I realized she was obsessed with me, sweetheart! I would never, ever do anything to hurt you.” “I can’t even look at you right now.” I say sounding hurt and turning around. Mikah grabs my arm, “Anna, please. I love you. I have the moment we met. But I must go back to the states. My mother,” Mikah pauses as it says in the script, “she needs me.” I squeak, unintentionally at the sparks I felt when Mikah touches me. I swallow hard. “Connor,” I hang my head, “I don’t feel loved. You haven’t even kissed me. How can I feel loved?” He spins me around, places his free hand, that isn’t holding my arm, around my waist, and presses me against his body. I hold my breath as he lets go of my arm and cups my face. “Anna Beth, you are the only person I have loved in my entire existence. I wouldn’t trade you for anything in this world. When I’m with you nothing else matters. You’re the only person I see. I should have kissed you sooner, but I couldn’t find the right moment which sounds ridiculous. I kn- “ I place my hands on Mikah’s cheeks, lean in, and kiss him. Sparks shoot through my entire body as he kisses back. He wraps both his arms around my waist and presses me closer. Images keep coming in and out of focus as we kiss. I feel this kiss getting intense. Mikah licks my lip as if to ask for permission, I part my lips granting him it. Our tongues fight each other. Images of him smiling and holding my hand becomes clearer. I hear everyone clapping as Mikah pulls slightly away breaking the kiss. I look into his eyes, and everything goes blurry. I feel his arms tighten around me. “Jade?” He whispers. More images of last year keeps popping into focus. Images of things I didn’t think happened. “Jade?” Mikah asks louder and with more concern. I feel dizzy and weak. “I-I think I’m going to p-pass out.” I stammer before everything goes black. *** Mikah POV Sparks ignite through my body when I grab Jade’s arm for this scene. “Anna, please. I love you. I have the moment we met. But I must go back to the states. My mother,” I pause like it says to, “she needs me.” Jade squeaks. It is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. “Connor,” She hang her heads, “I don’t feel loved. You haven’t even kissed me. How can I feel loved?” I spin her around, place my free hand around her waist, and press her against my body. I cup her face and feel everything I’m saying is meant for her to hear, “Anna Beth, you are the only person I have loved in my entire existence. I wouldn’t trade you for anything in this world. When I’m with you nothing else matters. You’re the only person I see. I should have kissed you sooner, but I couldn’t find the right moment which sounds ridiculous. I kn-“ She places her hands on my cheeks and kisses me. I feel my cheeks get a bit hot. I kiss her back. I wrap both arms around her and press her closer to me. Everything in the room disappears. I can’t help myself, so I lick her lip, and she grants me permission to slip my tongue into her mouth. I’ve missed this with her. I can’t believe I’m kissing her again. I thought to myself as our tongues fight each other. This girl is everything to me. I know she’s, my mate. I thought as everyone starts clapping. I gently pull away. She looks at me and I notice her eyes look glossy. She looks paler than normal. I tighten my arms around her. “Jade?” I whisper. Her eyebrows furrow and she opens her mouth to speak. “Jade?” I ask louder. “I-I think I’m going to p-pass out.” She stutters before collapsing in my arms. Everyone in the room gasps and stands up. Professor Minx walks over quickly and places her hand on Jade’s forehead. “She’s burning up. You need to take her to Carter. Immediately.” Minx looks at me with concern. I nod and carry Jade out of the room. Carefully I pull my phone from my pocket and dial my best friend’s number. “Hey, dude! I’m in class. Make it fast.” Freddie’s Scottish accent fills my phone. “Car keys. I need them.” “What for? Classes are still going.” “Freddie. It’s an emergency. Don’t be a d**k. Car keys. Now!” I shout as I hang up the phone. Jade twitches slightly in my arms. I speed to the car and sigh in relief to see Freddie standing there. “Oh my god. Is she okay?” He asks opening the back seat. “I don’t know. She’s burning up. Minx said I need to take her to Carter.” I say climbing in the back with Jade. Freddie doesn’t ask any more questions. He just gets into the driver’s seat and drives home. I look at Jade and she’s shivering. I pull a blanket from the back and cover her with it. I get my phone out and call Carter. It rings. “Pick up.” And rings. “Please. Pick up.” And rings. “f*****g hell. Pick up!” “I did. I was in the middle of something. Why are you calling? Shouldn’t you be in class?” “I was! And then Jade passes out. Now she’s burning up and shivering. Minx said I had to bring her to you. I don’t know what the f**k to do. Carter, what’s happening!? You said she wouldn’t get hurt!” “Mikah, I need you to try to relax. You know what happens when you get worked up. We can’t have that right now. Especially now. She’s going to need you to be calm. There’s must be an explanation. Just get here and we’ll see what to do.” I take a few deep breaths, “okay. I’m sorry. I’m scared.” “I know. We’ll figure it out. See you soon.” “Okay. Bye.” We hang up and I just stare at Jade the entire ride home. *** Jade POV “I’m, what they call a Vampyre.” He spoke. I squeaked, “a what?” “A vampyre. Are you scared?” He asked looking at his hands, “it’s okay if you’re scared.” I took his hand and sparks shot through my body as they always did when we touched. “Never,” I climbed into his lap wrapping my legs around his torso and my arms around his neck, “I know you won’t hurt me.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed me closer. He sighed in relief. “Never.” He repeated nuzzling his face into my neck. I bit my lip, “Mikah?” “Hmm?” “I-I…” I stammered. He slowly looked at me and glanced down. “I love y-you.” I could feel my heart practically beating out of my chest. “I love you too, Jade. From the moment we met.” He smiled. I smiled back as tears formed in my eyes. He cupped my face and kissed me. I pressed closer as I kissed back. I felt his hand slip under my shirt to touch my back. I kissed him harder, trying to send a message through the kiss that I wanted him. All of him. Forever. *** Mikah POV I watch as Carter tries to access Jade’s mind to ease the process. “She’s starting to remember. But it’s happening so fast. So, she’s burning up.” He said as soon as he saw us. Leaning back in the chair across from her bed. I run hands through my hair. “Carter?” “Hmm?” “What…what if she hates me?” I ask looking at the floor. “I doubt that. She’s going to feel a lot of things. But hate, I’m sure won’t be one of them.” He says as he covers her with the blanket and kisses her forehead. He’s always loved her like his daughter. I never understood why he didn’t adopt her in the first place. He put his hand on my shoulder, “she’ll wake soon and I’m sure you’re the first person she’ll want to see.” *** Jade POV I feel cold and warm all at once. At first, I felt scared and then I felt relief. “Jade?” I look around, but I can’t see anyone. “Jade?” I look to my left, darkness. I look to my right and see someone, but they’re blurry. “Hello, Jade. I hope the memories you saw weren’t too overwhelming.” The voice says as the body gets closer and clearer. “At first it was. But not anymore.” I reply. “Good. You stopped fighting them then.” He chuckles. “Carter!” I shout. He smiles at me, “hey, love. Glad to know you recognize me.” I smile back, “I’m so glad to see you. I thought I was a goner for a minute.” “Nope, Mikah and Freddie got you home just in time.” As soon as Carter said his name, the scent of eucalyptus and sage fill my nostrils. I inhale deeply. “Did that start when you woke up after I changed you?” Carter asked. I blush slightly out of embarrassment, “did what start?” “Being able to smell someone.” I nod, “yes. It did.” He grins, “he’s missed you; you know. It was awfully hard for him last year. He just asked if you’d hate him.” “I could never! Everything he did was to protect me.” “I know. You just need to remind him. I’m going to let you rest. Okay? I just wanted to make sure you were subconsciously alright. You had us all worried for a bit. Wake whenever you’re ready, sweetheart.” I nod, “okay.” Carter smiles and turns. “Will tell him I want to see him as soon as I wake up?” I ask him. “Of course, love. Rest well.” *** Mikah POV Carter left the room, and I watch as Jade’s chest falls and rises as she breathes. I was hoping she’d be awake as soon as Carter left. I get up and crawl into the bed with her. I’m careful not to touch her just in case it could interfere with what Carter did. I stay there for what feels like an eternity watching her. “I missed you so much, Jade. I really hope you don’t hate me.” I continue to watch her breath. Soon my breathing goes in sync with hers. I lay there forever, until I drift off to sleep. *** Jade POV The images and memories finally slow down and stop. I feel so tired, but excited to wake up. There’s a weight next to me. I know exactly who it is from the smell. I slowly open my eyes and see him sleeping peacefully next to me. “Mikah.” I whisper gently touching his arm. He mumbles something I don’t quite understand. I chew my lip nervously. ‘Why am I so nervous? It’s not like I haven’t seen him before,’ I think to myself. I take a deep breath and tap his arm. He stirs a bit. “Mikah?” I whisper tapping his arm again. “Hmm.” He let out. I scoot a little closer to him and touch his cheek with my fingertips. “Mikah, please wake up.” He turns on his side and drapes his arm over my waist and pulls me closer in his sleep. I giggle, “Mikah.” I kiss his nose and he scrunched it. I sigh; I need him to get up now. I place a kiss on his lips and fireworks shoot through my body. “Is that going to happen every time?” I whisper. “I believe so.” Mikah whispers back. I squeak, “h-hi.” “Hi, princess,” He says tucking a hair behind my ear, “how are you feeling?” “Better. I’ll be even better here a bit.” Mikah raises his eyebrow, “oh?” I bite my lip and hesitate to try to gain some courage. “What do y- “ I kiss him hard and passionately before he can finish his sentence. He responds immediately kissing me back. I place my hand on his chest. I lightly wrap my fingers around his shirt trying to pull him closer. I move so I’m straddling his waist. His hands are under my shirt holding my waist. I take my shirt off, cup his face and kiss him again. “Jade…” he says breathlessly. I pull back slightly, biting my lip, “hmm?” He sits up and props himself against the headboard, holding me still in his lap. He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “Take it easy. I want to, trust me. I do, but you blacked out for several hours.” I flush red in embarrassment and unease, “you’re right. I-I’m sorry.” I look around trying to find my shirt. I can feel his eyes on mine. He slides his hand to my back and pulls me back to him. I sigh contently and rest my head on his shoulder. Mikah rubs his hand up and down my back. “I didn’t realize how much I missed you.” I say quietly. He kisses my head, “I know. Me either.” We sit in comfortable silence for what seems like forever. “You hungry?” Mikah asks. “Starving.” I reply. He chuckles and slides me off his lap. He takes off his shirt and hands it to me. “Put this one on. I’ll be right back with food.” He smiles at me before he leaves the room. I stare at him as he walks away. My eyes rake down his back. Taking in every detail of his toned back muscles. Oh, what I’d do to lick them. I squeak, “Jesus, Jade. You sound like a horn dog.”
