CHAPTER 27 — THE IMPLANT

999 Words
The room erupted into chaos. Voices overlapped. Questions flew in every direction. Nobody knew what to believe anymore. An implant? Inside Aarya? For twenty-two years? It sounded impossible. Insane. Like something from a science fiction movie. Yet after everything they had discovered— human experiments. Project Aarya. Chairman Han. Her mother's disappearance. Nothing seemed impossible anymore. Aarya stood frozen. Unable to move. Unable to think. Because one sentence kept repeating inside her mind. The implant is still inside you. "No." She whispered. Almost to herself. "No." Minho's expression softened slightly. The first sign of humanity she'd seen from him in weeks. "I wish I was wrong." Jungkook stepped forward immediately. Positioning himself between Aarya and Minho. Protective. Instinctive. Possessive. "Do you have proof?" His voice was ice. Pure ice. Minho nodded. Slowly. "Medical records." The hallway became silent. "I stole copies years ago." Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "Where are they?" Minho reached into his jacket. Several weapons immediately pointed at him. Again. Minho sighed. Clearly annoyed. "If I wanted to kill someone, I'd have done it already." Nobody lowered their weapons. Smart choice. A few moments later— he handed over a flash drive. Jungkook took it immediately. Never taking his eyes off Minho. The tension between them remained. Raw. Painful. Unresolved. Because despite everything— the betrayal still existed. And some wounds didn't heal quickly. Especially not that one. An hour later— Aarya sat inside the estate's medical wing. The mansion apparently had one. Because of course it did. Everything about Jungkook's life seemed ridiculous sometimes. Private security. Private armies. Private doctors. Private estates. Normal people had apartments. Jungkook had mountain fortresses. The thought almost made her laugh. Almost. Unfortunately— the situation wasn't funny. Not even a little. The doctor examined the records carefully. Then studied the scans. Again. And again. The silence became unbearable. Finally— he looked up. His expression said everything. The answer before he even spoke. "It's there." The room froze. Aarya felt her stomach drop. "What?" The doctor turned the monitor toward them. A small object appeared near the base of her skull. Tiny. Barely visible. Hidden. Yet undeniably real. The implant. Twenty-two years. Twenty-two years it had remained there. Unknown. Forgotten. Waiting. Aarya stared at the screen. Unable to process it. Because suddenly— her body no longer felt like hers. Something foreign had been inside her almost her entire life. Watching. Tracking. Recording. Maybe. The thought made her feel sick. Beside her— Jungkook's expression became terrifying. Truly terrifying. Because he wasn't looking at the scan. He was imagining Chairman Han. And every violent thing he wanted to do to him. "Aarya." His voice softened immediately when he looked at her. The contrast always shocked people. One second a monster. The next— gentle. Only for her. "We'll remove it." The certainty in his voice eased her panic slightly. Slightly. Then the doctor ruined that hope. "It's not that simple." Silence. Jungkook slowly turned toward him. A dangerous mistake. The doctor visibly regretted speaking. "Explain." The single word carried enough threat to make most people confess crimes they hadn't committed. The doctor swallowed. Hard. "The implant is attached to neural tissue." The room became deathly quiet. "Removing it incorrectly could cause permanent damage." Aarya felt her heartbeat stop. Permanent damage. No. Absolutely not. Jungkook's jaw clenched. "There has to be another way." The doctor hesitated. Then nodded. "Possibly." The word wasn't reassuring. Not at all. Meanwhile— outside the medical wing— another war was unfolding. Minho sat alone in the security room. Watching surveillance monitors. Watching the estate. Watching the approaching storm. Because he knew something nobody else did. Chairman Han wasn't sending hunters anymore. He was coming himself. The realization haunted him. For years he had believed revenge would fix everything. Heal everything. Instead— he'd helped create a nightmare. And now innocent people were paying the price. Especially Aarya. Aarya— the girl he'd once viewed as nothing more than a piece in a larger game. Now? Now he wanted to protect her. The irony wasn't lost on him. A sudden alert flashed across the screen. Minho's eyes widened. Immediately. "No." His chair scraped violently against the floor. Within seconds— he was running. Through hallways. Past guards. Toward the medical wing. Fast. Too fast. The door burst open. Everyone jumped. Minho looked directly at Jungkook. For the first time— genuine fear appeared on his face. "They found us." The room froze. "What?" Minho pointed toward the security monitor he'd brought. Satellite images. Heat signatures. Vehicles. Dozens of them. No. Hundreds. Aarya's blood ran cold. Because this wasn't an attack. It was an invasion. Chairman Han wasn't sending assassins anymore. He was bringing an army. The estate alarms exploded to life. Red lights flashed. Sirens echoed. Outside— the distant sound of helicopters filled the sky. The war had arrived. For real this time. Jungkook stared at the screen. Then at Aarya. Then back at the screen. A deadly calm settled over him. The calm that appeared before violence. Before destruction. Before bloodshed. "Get her underground." The order came instantly. Several guards moved toward Aarya. She immediately shook her head. "No." Jungkook looked at her. "Aarya." "No." Her voice grew stronger. "I'm done hiding." The room became silent. Because for the first time— something fierce burned in her eyes. Not fear. Anger. Years of lies. Years of manipulation. Years of being hunted. Enough. "I'm the reason they're here." "Aarya—" "No." She stepped forward. "They want me." Silence. Then she looked directly at Jungkook. And spoke the words that terrified him most. "Maybe it's time I stop running." Far away— inside a black helicopter flying toward the estate— Chairman Han smiled. Because after twenty-two years— his greatest achievement was finally within reach. And hidden inside his pocket— was a photograph. A photograph of a little girl. Aarya. With a note written on the back. Subject A-01 The Only Successful Survivor
