CHAPTER 21 — CONFESSION

1100 Words
The world stopped. At least, that's what it felt like. The abandoned warehouse. The dust-filled air. The security guards standing nearby. The investigation. The recording. Everything faded into the background. Because there was only one thing Aarya could hear. One thing she could think about. One thing echoing through her mind over and over again. "I think I'm in love with you." Jeon Jungkook. The most feared man in Seoul. The man who terrified criminals and businessmen alike. The man who had built walls around his heart so high nobody could climb them. Had just confessed. To her. For the first time since she'd met him— Jungkook looked nervous. Actually nervous. Not afraid. Not uncertain. Just vulnerable. The realization shook her. Because she knew how rare this moment was. How difficult it must have been for him. Jungkook didn't trust easily. Didn't open up easily. Didn't love easily. Yet here he was. Standing in front of her. Giving her his heart. Without any guarantee she'd take it. "Aarya." His voice was softer now. Careful. As if he was afraid she'd disappear. Afraid she'd reject him. Afraid she'd walk away. And somehow— that hurt. Because the truth was— she couldn't imagine walking away anymore. Not now. Not after everything. The memories came flooding back. The first time she'd seen him. The way she'd hated him. The arguments. The threats. The frustration. The possessiveness. The late-night conversations. The moments he protected her. The moments he looked at her like she mattered. Like she was precious. Like she was his entire world. Somewhere between all those moments— everything had changed. And she hadn't even noticed. Aarya laughed softly. The sound surprised both of them. Jungkook frowned immediately. A dangerous sign. "Why are you laughing?" His tone sounded suspicious. Almost offended. Aarya shook her head. Because suddenly— she realized something. Something ridiculous. Something painfully obvious. "We're idiots." The answer caught him completely off guard. "What?" "We're complete idiots." Confusion crossed his face. Rare. Adorable. Dangerously adorable. Aarya stepped closer. Closing the distance herself this time. Jungkook went completely still. Watching her. Waiting. Her heart hammered violently. But she didn't stop. Not now. Not anymore. "Do you know how long I've been trying not to fall for you?" Silence. Then— shock. Actual shock. For the first time. The mighty Jeon Jungkook looked stunned. And honestly? It was kind of satisfying. His eyes searched hers. As if making sure he'd heard correctly. "Aarya." She smiled. A real smile. The first truly genuine smile she'd given him in weeks. Maybe ever. "I love you too." The words escaped softly. Yet somehow— they hit harder than gunshots. Harder than explosions. Harder than betrayal. Because for several seconds— Jungkook simply stared. Like he couldn't believe it. Like he'd stopped breathing. Like the world itself had frozen. Then— something beautiful happened. He smiled. Not the celebrity smile. Not the public smile. Not the confident smile he showed everyone else. A real smile. Warm. Happy. Genuine. And Aarya's heart nearly stopped. Because she suddenly understood why millions of people adored him. Why people called him dangerous. Because a smile like that could ruin lives. Including hers. Before she could think another thought— Jungkook stepped forward. His hands gently framed her face. Giving her every chance to stop him. Every chance to pull away. She didn't. Instead— she lifted her hand. Resting it against his chest. Directly over his heart. The heartbeat beneath her palm was racing. Fast. Wild. Just like hers. "Aarya." The way he whispered her name sent shivers down her spine. Slowly— he leaned closer. And this time— neither hesitated. Neither ran. Neither looked away. Their lips met softly. Gently. A kiss filled with weeks of tension. Weeks of longing. Weeks of emotions neither had known how to express. The world disappeared. Leaving only them. Only this moment. Only the truth. For several seconds— nothing else mattered. Not the conspiracy. Not Chairman Han. Not Minho. Not the danger surrounding them. Just this. Just each other. A loud cough interrupted everything. Immediately. Both jumped apart. Aarya wanted the floor to swallow her whole. One of the bodyguards looked away awkwardly. Very awkwardly. Another suddenly became fascinated by a wall. A third appeared deeply interested in absolutely nothing. The embarrassment was immediate. And brutal. Jungkook, however, remained completely unbothered. The jerk. He simply slipped an arm around Aarya's waist. Possessively. Naturally. As though he'd been doing it for years. Aarya's face heated instantly. "Jungkook." His lips twitched. "Yes?" "Everybody is staring." "They can continue." She nearly stepped on his foot. Unfortunately— he looked far too pleased with himself. The ride back to headquarters felt different. Everything felt different. The tension between them hadn't disappeared. It had simply transformed. Into something warmer. Something deeper. Something infinitely more dangerous. Because now— they both knew. And there was no going back. Unfortunately— the universe clearly hated happiness. Because the moment they arrived at headquarters— chaos erupted. Security teams flooded the entrance. Phones rang nonstop. People rushed through hallways. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Jungkook's expression immediately darkened. The mafia king returned. "What happened?" One of his senior guards approached quickly. Pale. Nervous. Breathing hard. "Boss." Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "Talk." The guard swallowed. Then delivered the news. "Chairman Han knows." Silence. The hallway froze. Aarya felt her stomach drop. Because there was only one thing that sentence could mean. One thing. "He knows you're investigating him." The words hit like a bomb. Because suddenly— the element of surprise was gone. Their enemy knew. And powerful enemies became dangerous when cornered. Then the guard continued. And somehow— the situation became even worse. "There's more." Jungkook's jaw tightened. "What?" The guard hesitated. Fear visible in his eyes. Then— "We found another file hidden in the warehouse." Aarya's pulse quickened. Another file? What file? The guard handed over a sealed folder. Old. Dust-covered. Forgotten. Jungkook opened it immediately. His expression changed. Instantly. Shock. Disbelief. Confusion. Then something else. Something Aarya had never seen before. Fear. "Jungkook?" Slowly— he lifted his eyes. Looking directly at her. And suddenly— she knew. Whatever was inside that file— it involved her. His voice came out quieter than she'd ever heard it. Almost disbelieving. "Aarya..." Her heartbeat accelerated. "What?" Jungkook stared at the document. Then at her. Then back at the document. As though desperately hoping he was wrong. Then he spoke. Five words that changed everything. "Your name is in here." And suddenly— the conspiracy became personal.
