Kira’s eyes widen. She probably didn’t expect Shane to uncover her secret meeting with Kristof.
"Kristof and I are…close friends." Her nose reddens, betraying her lie. I had considered the possibility that it was a one-time coincidental encounter, but that reaction implies there is more going on.
"Kira, I suggest you stop lying while you still have a chance. You won’t like it if I have to force the truth out of your mouth," Shane cajoles her in a tone that would make one forget the type of methods he has used to get answers in the past.
"I’m telling the truth," Kira vows.
Shane looks to me for permission to move to the next phase—torture.
"I’ll deal with this one myself," I dismiss Shane's suggestion.
