“Come on in,” Max said when he opened the door for Wren. “What is this big emergency? You are cutting into my before-work nap.”
“I want to explain things once so you can wait until everyone gets here,” Wren said as he dropped onto Max’s couch.
“Sure, I mean, it’s only my house, so why should I know why you want everyone to meet here and who everyone includes,” Max said, dripping with sarcasm. He became serious and asked, “I can tell from the look on your face that this is bad, isn’t it?”
“It could be. I don’t know for sure.”
“Just the fact that you don’t know is bad.”
“Yes, it is. Both Bobs should be here any minute. All three of you need to know what is going on because you may get drug into this just because you work for her and know me.”
