Disappointed

1034 Words
It was few days before Andrew Pak’s flight. He called his driver to ensure he would be available on time of the said hour, before bringing out his traveling bag to arrange his items. In few days, he would be off to Spain. No one would dare speak to him about marriage or Caroline or damn awkward family customs. “What time is the flight again?” He asked Drey as he sorted his perfumes. “There are still two more days to go dude. Chill for a second.” “You know I can’t. Everything is forced upon me. What the hell am I doing with….” He gazed at his finger and caught sight of the engagement ring. “…her?” “The time of flight will be at 6 in the evening. Get everything ready.” “I might need to stay at the hotel before then. I do not wish to answer questions regarding where I am off to.” “Your family will be so mad at you. You’re gonna leave a girl at the altar dude.” “It wasn’t my intention. I agree I started this mess and I have no clue how to end it.” He was interrupted by Millie who sighted him parking his bags and sighed. “Are you really going to do this to that girl?” She asked in disappointment. “Do not begin with your preaching now please….” He made an attempt to remove the ring from his finger. “She is here to see you.” Millie announced. He halted getting the ring off, and stared at her. “Which of the ladies?” He couldn’t keep track of all them. “The one you should be getting married to next week.” “What the hell does that girl want?” He wanted shutting his bag and walking out. As he was about walking along the stairway, Millie grabbed hold of his hand. “You will regret what you’re doing to her.” “You know I don’t give a damn. I have faced worst hurdles than this.” He pulled his hands off before walking down the stairs. Caroline was seated on the sofa, waiting patiently for him with some documents in her hands. Millie followed behind him, clenching to her apron. “Nice to meet you, Caroline. It’s a surprise to see you here.” He informed her feigning a smile. “I haven’t seen you since the engagement party. You didn’t pick my calls nor did you reply any of my messages.” She sounded hurt. “O! About that….” His hand ran down his hair. “My phone has some issues so it’s unavailable for the mean time.” She hadn’t believed him. She stood up and walked closer to him with the document. “I came to tell you something very important.” She began. He was confused on why she seemed uneasy by what she was about to say. He collected the document and skipped through it. All he saw was a hospital logo and some strange writing he couldn’t understand. “What’s this?” He asked. “I am pregnant. I am one and half month pregnant.” She explained causing him to step back in shock. “You’ve got to be kidding me….” “I wish I was but I am not. I took a pregnancy test myself and went to the hospital for more accurate result. They all came out positive.” “Calm down, Caroline. Relax.” He sat her down, realizing the agitated feeling she got. Should he be the one calming her down at that moment? He could barely get his brain to think straight. Pregnant? Wait, does that mean he was going to be a father or what? “I am going to be a father?” He asked still confused. She nodded happily. Caroline drew him closer for a hug with no warning, feeling all excited about it. She turned to Millie who smiled at the news. “This is the best news I have heard today.” Millie smirked. “I guess I should help you unpack your luggage, right?” Andrew carefully pulled Caroline from him, as he watched all his plan flopped. “What luggage?” Caroline asked. “I ought to go on a vacation next tomorrow, but I can’t anymore.” He sounded upset. “No, you shouldn’t cancel that because of me. You can’t….” She had her hands touch his face slightly and he pulled it off. “You do not understand. “ “Caroline….” Millie cut in, walking to her with a glass of water. “I have a good feeling we will get along well. Ignore Andrew for now. I am sure he has a cold feet. Why don’t I show you round the house?” Caroline nodded and walked away with her. Andrew was pissed. He foamed so hard, he could barely control himself. Arriving at his room, he threw his expensive perfume against the wall. Though it didn’t break, it made a very loud noise. He didn’t care if Caroline heard. He didn’t care if anyone heard. He was done with this! He was tired. He turned to his luggage and grabbed hold of his passport. “How dare you? Why didn’t you tell me you were….” He didn’t see the point of fuming anymore. He reluctantly grabbed hold of his phone and called Drey. “Let me guess, you want to confirm the time again.” Drey seemed tired of his calls. “Cancel the trip. I am not going anymore.” Drey was astonished. “Why? You were so headbent on leaving few minutes ago.” “She’s pregnant. I can’t just leave her like that….” “O. Seems you hit the right spot my guy.” He heard Millie and Caroline approach his room and stand before his door. Caroline eyes met his and her smile seemed satisfied with what went on. She had no idea what was going on in his mind at that moment. She was just innocent. “Cancel it.”
