Chen Gu and Chili stare at Lin Xiaoman like she's lost her mind.
"Secret weapon? What secret weapon? You can't fight mid-level Blood Beasts with strawberries!" Chili hisses, grabbing her arm. "Those matches are to the death! They don't hold back!"
Lin Xiaoman just grins and pops another strawberry into her mouth. "You'll see. Other people train by meditating and practicing techniques. I train by eating fruit."
For the next week, Lin Xiaoman moves into the base's orchard and never leaves.
She eats cherries until every cherry tree is completely bare, the ground covered in nothing but pits. She eats strawberries until the entire strawberry bed is empty, her fingers stained bright red. She eats durians and watermelons and mangoes and grapes, crate after crate, day and night, barely stopping to sleep.
And the more she eats, the stronger she gets.
When she eats a durian, hard, spiky armor instantly covers her entire body, so tough even a steel knife can't scratch it. When she eats a watermelon, a giant, glowing green shield appears in her hand, able to stop any attack. When she eats grapes, dozens of perfect clones appear around her, each just as strong as the original. When she eats sugar cane, a long, sharp wood whip forms in her hand, strong enough to break steel.
By the end of the week, she's gone from a newly awakened beginner to a high-level fighter. Even the bureau director is shocked by her progress, saying he's never seen anyone advance this fast in his entire life.
The day of the match, the valley stadium is packed with people from both alliances. The air is thick with tension and the smell of blood and sweat.
Zhao Song sits in the stands, arms crossed, a smug smile on his face. In his mind, Lin Xiaoman will last at most one minute before getting beaten to a pulp. He's already planning what he'll say when she runs away crying.
When Lin Xiaoman steps into the arena, a huge roar goes up from the Beast Alliance side.
A two-and-a-half-meter-tall Blood Beast man walks out to face her. He's covered in scars, his muscles bulging under his skin, and he carries a giant axe that looks like it weighs a ton. He licks his lips when he sees her, drool dripping down his chin.
"The pure-blood elf! Perfect! Today I'll eat you and break through to the next level!" he roars, slamming his axe against the ground. The whole arena shakes.
The crowd gasps. Chen Gu and Chili stand up, their hearts in their throats.
But Lin Xiaoman just stands there, calm as can be. She pulls a seedless watermelon out of her pocket and takes a big bite.
Sweet watermelon juice slides down her throat. She holds up her hand.
A giant, glowing green watermelon shield instantly appears in front of her, twice as tall as she is.
CRASH!
The axe hits the shield with a deafening sound. Sparks fly everywhere, and the ground cracks under their feet. But the shield doesn't even have a single c***k.
The man stares, dumbfounded. His mouth hangs open so wide you could fit an egg in it.
"What the hell?!" he shouts, stepping back in shock. "That's impossible! A watermelon shield?!"
Lin Xiaoman smiles and pulls a handful of cherries out of her other pocket.
