Chapter 12 Mrs. Jared Jacobo

969 Words
The lobby stood frozen. Cameras remained raised. Microphones hovered in the air. And beneath the overwhelming flashes— Gena felt her heartbeat pounding violently inside her chest. Jared’s hand rested firmly against her waist. Warm. Heavy. Claiming. She stiffened immediately. This was a mistake. A disaster waiting to happen. Across the crowd— Sarah’s face had gone pale. The actress still stood beautifully composed, but the cracks were beginning to show. Jared’s voice remained calm. Cold. Controlled. "Allow me to correct your misunderstanding." The reporters leaned closer. The entire lobby held its breath. And beside him— Gena suddenly felt trapped. Not physically. But emotionally. Because she already knew what was coming. And somehow— That terrified her. One reporter called out. "Mr. Jacobo, are you denying your relationship with Ms. Valencia?" Jared didn’t even glance at Sarah. "No." Confusion spread instantly. More questions erupted. "So the rumors are true?" "Who is the woman beside you?" "Are you involved with both women?" The flashes intensified. Then— Jared tightened his hold around Gena. Only slightly. But enough. And with absolute certainty— He spoke. "The woman beside me is not my mistress." Silence. The crowd leaned in. His next words landed like thunder. "She is my wife." The world stopped. Gasps echoed across the lobby. Cameras exploded wildly. Microphones nearly collided. And Gena— Gena forgot how to breathe. The reporters erupted. "WIFE?!" "When did you marry?!" "Is this legal?" "How long have you hidden this?" Sarah visibly swayed. The color drained from her face. For one painful second— Their eyes met. And something dark passed between them. Shock. Humiliation. And hatred beginning to bloom. Gena swallowed. Her throat felt painfully dry. This wasn’t how she imagined people learning the truth. Not through chaos. Not through scandal. Not through force. Beside her— Jared remained unnervingly calm. As though he had merely announced tomorrow’s weather. One reporter shouted louder. "How long have you been married?" Jared answered without hesitation. "Three years." Another explosion of cameras. Three years? The reporters looked ready to collapse. The entertainment industry would feast on this. Sarah finally stepped forward. Her smile trembled. "Jared…" For the first time— He looked at her. And somehow— That felt colder than ignoring her. "You never told me," she whispered. His expression remained unreadable. "There was no reason to." The answer cut publicly. Cruelly. Sarah’s eyes widened. The reporters instantly turned toward her. "Ms. Valencia, were you unaware?" "Does this mean you were the third party?" "Did Mr. Jacobo deceive you?" Her breathing visibly faltered. And suddenly— Gena felt uncomfortable. Because whatever Sarah had done— Public humiliation still hurt. But before Sarah could answer— Jared spoke again. And this time— His voice carried warning. "My marriage is not entertainment." The reporters quieted. His eyes swept across them. "I have tolerated enough speculation." Then— His hand pressed gently against Gena’s back. "We’re done here." And just like that— He guided her toward the elevators. Questions followed. Flashes. Voices. But the world around Gena had already blurred. Wife. Three years. Public. Her pulse refused to slow. Inside the elevator— Silence exploded between them. The doors closed. And finally— The cameras disappeared. For several seconds— Neither spoke. Then— Gena stepped away from him. Her eyes burned. "You had no right." His jaw tightened. "I corrected the truth." "You ambushed me!" His expression remained controlled. "The situation required it." Her anger rose sharply. "No." Her voice shook. "You required it." The elevator climbed quietly. The air felt heavy. And suddenly— The intimacy of the small space suffocated her. "You embarrassed me." The words slipped out softer than intended. Something flickered in his face. Then vanished. "I protected you." Her laugh came bitter. "Protected?" She looked at him. "From what? Public opinion?" "From becoming collateral damage." The answer startled her. But she refused to soften. "You made the decision for me." "And you would have hidden forever." The accusation stung. Because perhaps— Part of her would have. The elevator doors opened. They stepped into the executive floor. And immediately— Silence greeted them. Employees stared. Whispers spread. Shock. Curiosity. Disbelief. Cherry stood near the reception desk holding coffee. And promptly dropped it. The cup hit the floor. No one cared. Because everyone had seen the live broadcast. Cherry looked at Gena. Then Jared. Then back to Gena. And whispered— "Mrs. Jacobo?" Gena wanted to disappear. Immediately. Instead— She inhaled slowly. Professional. Calm. Poker face. But before she could speak— Jared addressed the room. His voice remained firm. "Allow me to clarify." Every employee straightened. And then— Without hesitation— He delivered another earthquake. "Mrs. Jacobo will now serve as my executive assistant." The room froze. Cherry nearly fainted. Gena looked at him sharply. No. No— Not here. Not now. But Jared continued. "And she will work directly under me." The whispers exploded. Shock spread across the office. And beside him— Gena felt fury burn through her. He did it again. Another decision. Another command. Another cage. Yet before she could confront him— Ado approached quietly. His face unusually tense. "Sir." Jared looked at him. Ado lowered his voice. "Ms. Valencia is still downstairs." Silence. Then— Ado delivered the final problem. "And she refuses to leave." Across the office— Cherry looked toward the elevator nervously. Because everyone knew. This scandal— Was nowhere near finished. And downstairs— Sarah sat alone in the lobby. Tears no longer filled her eyes. Only humiliation. And something colder. Her phone rested in her lap. A message remained open. I want everything you can find about Gena. Her thumb hovered. Then— She pressed send. And quietly— Sarah smiled. Not with happiness. But revenge.
