FORTY-NINE The porter wheeled Charlie through the halls. Wendy and Joan walked on either side of the wheelchair. James lagged a little behind carrying Charlie’s things. On Sunday afternoon, the hospital was discharging her. Monday she’d meet with Dr. Benji and begin discussions on chemotherapy treatment options. Although James would prefer she spend a few more days in the hospital, the staff assured her there was nothing else they could do. Changing her bandages regularly, keeping an eye on the incision marks, and staying on top of the prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection was about the only instructions she had been given.
