This time, the room carried weight.
Not neutral space.
Luca’s study.
And Enzo was already there.
Standing.
Waiting.
That alone changed the atmosphere.
Because Enzo didn’t wait in decision rooms unless instructed.
Luca didn’t waste time.
“You altered movement patterns today,” he said.
“Yes.”
“That creates instability,” he added.
“I call it adaptation,” Elize replied.
A pause.
Then Luca looked briefly at Enzo.
“Report.”
Enzo hesitated.
Then—
“She didn’t violate any direct instruction.”
Silence.
That mattered more than anything else said so far.
Because it confirmed a gap.
She hadn’t broken rules.
She had moved inside them.
Luca turned back to her.
“You’re learning the boundaries faster than expected,” he said.
“I assume that’s the point of observation,” Elize replied.
A faint shift in Luca’s expression.
Not irritation.
Adjustment.
Then he stepped slightly closer.
“Don’t mistake flexibility for freedom,” he said quietly.
Elize held his gaze.
“I don’t.”
A pause.
Then softer—
“I mistake it for weakness in structure.”
That landed harder than expected.
Even Enzo shifted slightly at the side of the room.
Because that wasn’t defiance.
That was analysis.
Luca didn’t respond immediately.
Then—
“You’re trying to find pressure points,” he said.
“I’m identifying them,” she corrected.
Silence stretched again.
Then Luca leaned back slightly.
“That’s dangerous,” he said.
Elize didn’t hesitate.
“So is controlling something you don’t fully understand.”
That was the moment the room changed.
Not physically.
Relationally.
Because Luca paused.
Longer than before.
Then simply looked at her.
Not as someone reacting.
But as someone adjusting.
“You’re beginning to provoke response instead of observing it,” he said.
Elize tilted her head slightly.
“That depends,” she replied.
“On whether you consider awareness a threat.”
A pause.
Then Luca said quietly—
“I consider unpredictability a threat.”
Elize met his gaze.
“Then you have a problem.”
Silence.
And Enzo understood it clearly now.
This was no longer observation from Luca.
It was engagement.
