Chapter 5

993 Words
Mrs. Juliet Harrisono hired a guy called Logan, a known spy for the family. He often helped her in getting information about anyone including information that can't be found on that person's profile. I mean deep or secretive information Logan was that good. She hired him to tail James and Samantha's every move and report back to her daily, she also instructed him to take pictures of them together for a clear confirmation about their marriage and if what they have ongoing is real. The next day when the tailing started, James who had always been a very observant person got a clue something was up. This was the same day James found out about it. Instantly he called Samantha to inform her of what was going on, this made them have to strategize a new plan. To sell the illusion, they planned to go out on a staged date the next day, which they planned meticulously, ensuring they acted like a loving couple in public. The evening weather was calm, a cool breeze blew to replace the warmth of the day as Street Lights flickered to life. Distant conversations and the hum of traffic filled the air as Samantha adjusted her silky Midi dress and glanced briefly at her reflection in a shop window. James stood beside her, in his perfectly tailored suit that suited his tall frame. “Isn't this place a little…much,” Samantha mumbled as they approached the bar. “I’m so nervous right now,” she said, staring at the two couples who were holding hands and walking past them. “Look at me, you can do this and I'm sure you will do a great job” James calmly whispered to her, trying to make her feel less nervous. They both walked into the bar together as real couples, James as a gentleman opened the entrance door for Samantha to go in first then he followed. Inside, the bar was alive with a different caliber of people including young professionals, all looking magnificent in their different dresses. The air was filled with an expensive cocktail smell. James guided Samantha to a table for two as they both sat down, James looked around calmly without notice, to spot the exact angle Logan was sitting. Just then he noticed a man in a navy blue hoodie, Samantha followed his gaze “ I guess that's him,” James whispered to Samantha as calmly as possible to avoid being noticed. Samantha followed his gaze to a man sitting with his phone, angled just slightly too high to be casual. He was taking pictures, of course, his acts were suspicious, going with the angle of his phone there was no doubt. “That’s him no doubt about that,” Samantha said, nodding in agreement with James. “But who sent him, I mean who is he working for?” She asked “Mrs Juliet, “ James said with a smirk Samantha had no idea what his mum’s name was and how he addressed her. Later James explained in detail to her that his mum, who wasn’t sure about their marriage, had to hire someone to confirm for her if their marriage was the real deal. “Wow! I had no idea she was going to doubt us. Of course, the acting we did the day I met her was too good to be doubted.” Suddenly James leaned closer to her, with a charming smiling face. “Lean closer to me and smile” he’s about to take a picture of us, so we have to give our best. She leaned closer to James with a calm smile on her face. James then acted like he was whispering something to her ear, but it was sweet nothings he was saying, just for a perfectly staged drama. Samantha laughed like she was having the time of her life. This went on, they both kept posing for selfies just so that Logan could take notice of them and make a good picture out of it. As James flagged down a waiter ordered the most expensive champagne on the menu. The whole drama was on as the night went on, James now fed her a bit of crème brûlée, making her choke as the whole act stopped for a minute. But Logan’s lens kept flashing, as he nodded at every picture he captured like he'd captured the evidence he needed, looking so pleased not long after he left the bar, he was trying to adjust the cap of the hodie he was putting on so his face could be properly covered avoiding being recognized as he walked out through the exit door of the bar. The evening went by quickly, and by now they were done with the whole drama of the day; they both left the bar not long after Logan left. They didn't leave immediately to avoid suspicion and also didn't know if he went hiding somewhere else to take more pictures, so they both avoided any form of mistake, which made them make sure the evening was r***d up perfectly well. James now felt relaxed about the whole situation, knowing he already carried out a well-formed tax which was letting his mum see what she wanted to, also getting to hear what she was expecting to hear. The next morning, Logan visited Mrs. Juliet to report on how it went, which he did by showing her the pictures he had taken of them. Just kike James as predicted it worked like magic Logan didn't need to talk much nor go into details on it the pictures were already giving what she wanted to see. She now has zero doubt about them. Of course, to the extent it was all staged no one in his or her right senses would bring in the thought of them being fake or real either they would try to figure out whose love among them weighed more.
