"I just barely started, but I already need a vacation," Stephanie exclaimed. She looked at the clock on her wall and then to Marina with wide eyes. Marina was currently sitting cross legged on her friends bed reading. "It's like, six in the evening, we could totally go out for an hour." Stephanie suggested.
Marina shrugged. "Yeah," she said, her voice calm, but her stomach was churning. Her best friend had never mentioned wanting to go on a vacation before, she was always busy... not that it mattered. "Sure." Marina replied, folding the current page of the novel she read to remember where she left off when they returned.
“so where are we heading of to?” Marina inquired. “I honestly wouldn’t mind a walk, no place too serious. Moreover I still have a lot of work tomorrow,” Stephanie uttered.
The ladies had known each other for a few years, they met in Harvard university. Marina’s parents were equally as rich, although she grew up in Pennsylvania with her parents. Marina and Stephanie decided to stay back in Massachusetts even after their graduation, which was in a few weeks time.
Unlike Stephanie, Marina was more interested in glamour and beauty. She always wore a little something extra to impress, even if they had completely different views of life, they seemed to be quite the pair.
Marina was blonde and beautiful with big blue eyes and soft features. A model, she had an amazing body that looked just as good on display at a fashion show as it did in person. Her long hair framed her face perfectly and made her look like an angel. She was perhaps the real world Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty just what most men wanted but would never have.
She liked girls. That’s what she told herself everyday anyway. Not once did she mention that part of her life to anyone, not even her best friend Stephanie.
Stephanie never took notice of Marina's sexuality, even if for some weird reason she wasn't into guys. It didn’t really bother her. Sure they could hang out sometimes or even go out together but all they ever saw each other as were sisters. They didn’t share any romantic feelings. Even if they cuddled a few times during sleepovers, it seemed pretty normal as besties.
They weren’t dating either so those moments alone didn’t mean much to them. The only time they ever kissed was when they kissed for the first time during a game in their second year at Harvard. It didn't mean much for Stephanie, as nothing changed after that.

"Steph, I think I had too much to drink at that bar," Marina uttered from behind her friend. Their bodies swaying back and forth slightly as Stephanie held the door open for Marina.
They both walked through the hallway of the apartment building towards the elevator, taking small steps. Stephanie couldn't help but laugh softly at Marina's comment. She had tried talking Marina out of downing too many shots, since they arrived at the bar. Yet here she was almost regretting her actions, she had somewhere important to go the next day. How does that happen? She thought to herself, shaking her head lightly as a chuckle escapes her lips.
When they reached the elevator they both pressed the button for the top floor. There's nothing to worry about now anyways. It' all okay. I'm okay. I'll be fine. She repeated these thoughts again and again in her mind until the elevator doors opened. As Marina stepped inside the elevator, she noticed Stephanie leaning against the wall watching her with a gentle smile upon her face. This is nice, isn't it? She said to herself, glancing up at Steph one last time before hitting the down button. You should get a boyfriend, this is fun.
"Steph? Are you listening?" Marina questioned, snapping herself out of her thoughts. Steph chuckled softly.
"Sorry, was lost in my own thoughts." She replied, "Guys are just a handful, most of them just want to ride you. I'm honestly not ready to be in a relationship, at least not yet," Stephanie said with a laugh.
"You are right actually, I just feel it's a good idea to have someone that is always there for you," Marina . Said, looking back at Steph with a small grin upon her face. "Oh gosh, you sound like my dad," Stephanie replied rolling her eyes. "Come on, you are always there for me. Who needs a guy?" Stephanie questioned playfully.
Marina sighed. "I guess you're right, it would be a lot harder without you around. I'd rather have someone who will support me and treat me right than someone who will treat me poorly." Her expression turned serious.
It seems like Steph understands. She smiled softly at Marina and gave her hand a light squeeze. Marina returns the gesture.
The two friends continue to talk while the elevator takes them up to the top floor. After reaching their destination they exit the elevator, heading straight into Stephanie's room. Before either can say anything, Stephanie feels the softness of Marina's lips on hers.
They pull apart slowly and Stephanie has confusion written all over her face. She tries to speak, but she could not find the words to do so. They gaze within each other's eyes for a moment longer, waiting for some kind of response. Eventually, however, Marina breaks away from Stephanie, letting out a deep breath.
She looks back at Stephanie. "Sorry about that, I shouldn't have done that, sorry!" Marina says with panic laced in her voice. Stephanie laughs nervously and shakes her head. She knows how nervous Marina is around her especially when they are in situations where neither of them know exactly what to expect. So she places her hands on Marina's shoulders and gives her a reassuring smile.
"Relax Mar, it's okay. No need to apologize," She reassured. "It’s just that it happened so suddenly, and I am not ready for any of this," She added, motioning between the two of them.
Marina nods and smiles, "Yeah, I get it. Don't sweat it! Let's just forget about it yeah?" She said, giving her a playful nudge. With that, Stephanie chuckled “I’ll see you tomorrow,” Stephanie said as she took her leave.
