Chapter 2

Hannah "Welcome, may I ask what you would like?" I walked over to the table where they were sitting and smiled professionally. Gina flicked her red hair and proudly pinched the plate, scanning it up and down with those brown eyes, and then said to me in a nonchalant tone, "Ugh! I need some..." Her voice deliberately delayed for a full half minute, and then said slowly, "A strawberry milkshake. " "A strawberry milkshake. Is there anything else you need?" I asked, quickly jotting down the words Strawberry Milkshake in a book. "What are you going to drink?" Gina turned her head and asked her two attendants, "I'll have a treat!" " "I want a cup of hot cocoa." Sophie said as she chewed the bubble gum in her mouth, "And a serving of fries." " "I want a strawberry milkshake too." " said Lydia, as if in admiration. "Why do you have to order the same drink as me every time?" Gina's gaze swept disdainfully over Lydia's sycophantic smile. "Is that all?" I asked. "Yes, that's all." As I was about to hand the printed menu to the kitchen window, Gina's voice rang out behind me. "I changed my mind." Gina said, "I don't want a strawberry shake." "So what do you want?" I turned to ask her. "I want a glass of orange juice." Gina smirked. "A glass of orange juice." I confirmed the change to orange juice and modified the order. However, when I handed it to the kitchen, Sophie requested a switch from the fries she had initially ordered to a vegetable salad without cauliflower. "Can't you say it all at once?" I looked at them with displeasure, and it was clear that they were doing it on purpose. "Someone is getting impatient." Gina deliberately raised her voice, "Is this your service?" " "Be careful, I complain about you." Lydia echoed. "What's the problem? Hannah! "The new owner, Tim, came out of the kitchen, his fat body leaning against the bar and looking at me, the look telling me, don't cause trouble. "Is there anything else you need?" While I kept smiling at them, I was trying to contain my anger. "That's all. Thank you. Gina sneered. After fifteen minutes, I walked toward the table by the window with my plate of food, and the three girls were discussing something enthusiastically. So I put the vegetable salad on the table first, three drinks still on the plate in my hands. Then I noticed that Gina stopped talking, and then she gave Sophie a look. Just as I was about to place the hot cocoa on the table, Sophie called out and waved her arms as if frightened. The hot cocoa splashed directly on my overalls, and Sophie's voice caught Tim's eye as he glanced down at the glass shards on the ground and then stared at me in displeasure. "See what you've done?" Before I could explain, Gina interposed. "Sir, it's obvious that the waiter you hired is not professional. She almost poured a cup of hot cocoa on my friend. " "Oh! Gosh, I was almost scared to death just now". Sophie looked pitiful. "Is this true, Hannah?" Tim questioned me. "You knocked over that cup of hot cocoa," I said, staring at Sophie instead of Tim. "I don't know what you're talking about." Sophie's voice was sharp, "It's obviously your fault." " "Sir, we all saw that it was this waiter who spilled the drink." Lydia was raving with her eyes open. "Hannah. You have to apologize to the customer. Tim commanded me, "Now!" I drew a deep breath and swept my gaze over Gina and them. I saw the look of schadenfreude on their faces, and I did not need to know why they had done it. Because bad girls do not need a reason to be bad. "Nope!" I said firmly. "If you don't apologize, I'll fire you!" Tim said viciously, "And I'll deduct today's loss from your paycheck!" " "Alright! I'm not doing it,"I yelled at him," I've had enough of you! You bastard." I rushed into the dressing room to change out of my dirty overalls and made my way to the bar, where I expertly opened the cash register and pulled out a few bills. By this time Tim was directing another waiter to clean up the broken glass on the floor. When he turned his head, I held up the bill in my hand and said to him, " I'm only taking my salary " "Bastard, you can't do this!" Tim exclaimed, his face flushing with anger. The next moment, I darted out of the restaurant under his furious gaze. At the moment I just want to go home, I've had enough for one day. Well, I confess that the bravest thing I did on my birthday was not confess to Ian, but to fire my boss and collect my salary arrears! I went to the bus stop to wait for the bus home, but today's bus was delayed. A red Roadster was coming towards me from across the road, and from a distance I saw that Gina was in the driver's seat, with her two attendants in the back. The car pulled up in front of me, and Gina stepped out and walked up to me. I glared at her while making defensive gestures. "What do you want to do?" I said. "Listen!" Gina folded her arms over her chest as she lifted her chin to me, "Ian is mine, you better stay away from him! And he's already promised to be my boyfriend and go to the prom with me, so you better stay away from him! If I see you with Ian again, I will definitely not let you go!" Ian. Could it be that Ian had rejected me because he liked Gina! My heart ached as I watched Gina drive off. It seemed that Ian had rejected me because he liked Gina. Maybe he wouldn't have been interested in a poor girl like me; it was my own feelings. Damn it! At nightfall, as I returned home and looked at the dark house, I knew that my grandmother had not come home yet. A week ago, she told me that she needed to attend an event organised by the church, so she could not be with me for my birthday. She attended church functions nearly every year, and she never told me the name or location of the church. But when I wondered if she had joined some mysterious group, she always smiled and told me not to worry. I went to the door and saw the birthday cake that the courier had left outside. Also a happy birthday card signed by my grandmother. So I walked into the house with the birthday cake that my grandmother had ordered for me. At that moment, Ginny sent me a text wishing me a happy birthday, and she told me that she was sorry not to accompany me on my birthday because it also happened to be her grandmother's birthday, and she was going to her grandmother's birthday party with her parents in Phoenix. I wrote back, thanking her for her kindness, and hoping that she would convey my blessing to her grandmother. Ginny's grandmother, like my grandmother, was a kind old woman. I had seen Ginny several times when I was a guest, and each time she had served me the best possible hospitality. After my shower I went alone to the drawing-room, and as I looked at the empty room a sudden feeling of loneliness came over me. I decided to celebrate my 18th birthday myself, so I opened the cake box and put candles on the cake. I turned off the light in my room, and the candle flame fluttered gently in the breeze. I looked at the candle flame before me, then closed my eyes, clasped my hands, and began to wish. Gosh, Please bless my grandmother with good health. Also, please send me a more handsome boyfriend than Ian into my life! Just as I heard a loud bang, I thought something had fallen. So I hastened to turn on the light, but it would not come. Was it a power outage? I heard a noise in the front yard, so I opened the door to see what was going on. As soon as I opened the door, I saw a man slowly rising from the ground on the lawn. The moment he turned his head, I was dumbfounded. Oh, my God! It was actually a man! But why was he not dressed?
