Devon's POV
The vampire was more vulnerable than I had expected, and he was already on the ground, his neck broken by me. Even though he was not breathing, I knew that he was not really dead, and that he would soon revive.
The most direct way to actually kill a vampire is to crush his heart. Or I could take a bite out of his neck, and let the wolf's venom seep into his body, and let him die slowly of pain and suffering.
Just as I was about to do so, a growl came from behind me.
"What are you doing?"
I did not turn, but saw through my reflection a man standing a little way behind me. The next second the man pulled a pistol out of his pocket and shot at me. I made a hasty movement, just as the bullet was about to strike me in the back.
