Chapter 9 Anger

1094 Words
Devon POV "Get off her!" As I tried to step over the fence of the house, a searing heat instantly spread from my toes to my whole body, and I clenched my fists to stifle the pain. Vicki had drawn a line around the house, making it impossible for me to take even half a step out of it, or else I guaranteed that the vampire before me would have been torn apart by me! When the vampire was aware of my presence, he glanced uneasily at me before releasing Hannah's hand. "I will contact you again. Bye, Hannah!" The vampire reluctantly turned around then drove off. "Who is he?" I asked. "He's Ian, my classmate." Hannah rubbed her wrists, at the same time pretending to steal a casual peep in the direction of the departing car. It turned out he's the one who rejected Hannah, a vampire! "Are you okay?" The thought of that vampire clinging to Hannah's hand just now made me angry. "I'm fine." Hannah whispered. "Was he pestering you earlier?" "No." She hesitates, "I don't think so." Hannah approached the inside of the fence, and I stared long and hard at her neck, thankful that there were no bite marks on her white neck. "Devon...." Hannah tried to say something. "What?" She looked at me, "Do you want to...." "Hannah!" A low voice came from ahead, and we saw only Vicki standing under the roof, wrapped in a blanket, her eyes fixed on us. "Grandma!" Hannah walks quickly toward Vicki and gives her a hug before they walk into the house together. By the time I reached the house, the furnishings were back in place. The magic formation of the five stars was gone, as if nothing had just happened. "If I remember correctly, you should be in school at this time." Vicki said to her granddaughter in a kind tone, "Did school let out early?" "I passed out in the playground." Hannah said, hanging her book bag casually on one of the chairs, "Dr. Anna said that I might be in a temporary coma due to low blood sugar and she advised me to get some rest." "A coma? Why would you be in a coma at school?" I couldn't help but ask, "Did someone do something to you?" "What?" Hannah looked over at me, "Oh no, I think it might be because I didn't eat breakfast." "I saw a boy walk you back." Vicki said. "Ian, he was the one who offered to walk me home." Hannah said. "But I saw him pestering you." I said, "What was he trying to do to you?" "Were you pestered by that boy?" There was a keen light in Vicki's eyes. "No." Hannah explained immediately, "He just wants me to forget something. Maybe his behavior was a little over the top, but I don't think he wanted to hurt me." "What did he want you to forget?" I pressed. I knew that vampires were the best at confusing people, even erasing their memories. Could it be that the vampire was trying to erase Hannah's memory just now? "Devon!" Vicki's voice was full of warning, "I think we should let Hannah rest first." "Yes, I'd like to lie in bed for a while too." Hannah rubbed her forehead, "Maybe I'll just sleep it off." Vicki had her back to Hannah and I was the only one who saw her chanting something silently into the teacup, which then emitted a faint white smoke. By the time Vicki handed Hannah the teacup, the white smoke had disappeared. "This hot tea will help you sleep soundly." Hannah took the cup of tea and took a sip. Soon her eyes appeared sleepy and she yawned continuously and said, "I'm really sleepy." "Go to your room and go to sleep, baby." Vicki patted Hannah on the back, "I'll wake you up when it's time for dinner." Hannah dragged herself up the stairs until she heard her close the door. Vicki immediately put away the kindly look she had been wearing, and looked at me with a cold expression. "I think I know who summoned you!" I was silent for a moment, "Was it Hannah?" Vicki nodded, and her eyes looked as if they were reluctant to accept this. "Now that you've found the cause of the problem, should you keep your promise to let me go?" "I'm sorry, but you won't be able to leave here just yet." "But you clearly said that." "I repaired the boundary!" Vicki cut me off, "No supernatural creature can enter this town, and likewise, no supernatural creature can leave it." "Why?" I raged. "There is no why, it's the power of magic." Vicki said calmly, "But I can put you in touch with your king, you can tell him about your situation and I think he'll sympathize with your difficulties." "I need you to give me an exact time." I take a hard line, "Tell me when I'm going to get the hell out of here?" Vicki thought for a moment, "In a month's time, I'll reset the boundary, and when that happens, I'll let you leave!" "That's a promise!" "I promise!" Vicki turned and pulled open a cabinet drawer. She pulled out a new cell phone and handed it to me. "This cell phone is for you, so you can contact whoever you want." "I would appreciate it if you would lift the spell from me!" I said. "As long as you don't mess me up." " said Vicki, making a half-circle in the air, and the next moment the spell rang in my ears. "Now you're free to roam the town!" I said as I gripped my cell phone tightly, "I need to make a private call, if you'll allow it." "Sure." Vicki showed a rare smile, "I happen to be going out and picking up some decent clothes for you on the way." As soon as Vicki drove off, I was eager to dial a string of numbers on my cell phone. After a half-minute wait, a gentle female voice came to the other end of the line, "This is King Logan's office! I'm Amy, the King's secretary!" "Amy, this is Devon!" "Oh my God, Devon, is it really you?" The King's secretary said with great excitement, "We thought you were dead!" "Put me through to King Logan, I have something urgent to report to him!" "One minute please!" A minute later I heard the deep, commanding voice of King Logan. "Devon, where the f**k have you been?"
