‘Oh dear, Alex didn’t look very happy,’ Audrey said, as they parked in a bay. ‘Perhaps now’s not a good time.’ ‘Something’s going on, for sure,’ Poppy said, already unbuckling her seatbelt. ‘Let’s test the water first. He’s probably heard us pull up, anyway.’ It seemed that Alex had, as he was coming out of the shop and heading towards them. ‘Oh... I would show him a good time,’ Poppy muttered under her breath, prompting a “look” from Audrey in return. They greeted Alex outside the car and Audrey took him in, looking for a sign to gauge his mood, but he smiled broadly and, she noted, wider still as he greeted Poppy.
