48 Maud straightened, noticing the long, glazed windows sending back reflections of three lamps, one beside each of the stricken women. The water on the outside of the windows blurred and distorted the images. She moved over to join Sheldrake and Tarkyn who had already had time to inspect the women. “Well?” Sheldrake grimaced. “Hard to say until they come round. Their hearts are beating strongly. Nothing obvious is wrong with them and it seems extremely unlikely that they would all fall ill simultaneously, especially when no one else the town is affected, as far as we know.
