Search for Brad

I called off of work that morning. Yesterday's events made me restless. I tossed and turned a lot last night. I tried to remember if I gave Trevor my address or directions to my house, but I just couldn't seem to remember. That mixed with Paul's warning just didn't sit right with me. Paul spoke of creatures killing Brad, but he held the gun to Trevor, who was a man. It just didn't make sense, I was never the type to believe in something more than I could see. Even as a child, I rolled my eyes at talks of unicorns and princess guarding dragons. If something like that existed, why and how would it stay hidden from the world. Mythical Beast could run the world and tear down human civilization. I rolled my eyes at my own thoughts, clearing them from my mind. It was time to get out of bed and at least move to the couch. I flipped the covers off of myself and climbed out of bed, stretching my aching muscles. I heard the house phone begin trilling as I made my way to the living room. Grabbing the phone, I answered. "Hello?" " Mrs. Lambert, it's Sherrif Tom. I'm just returning your call." He said through the other end. I began rubbing my temples as I forgot I even called him after Paul acted all crazy in my house the other day. "Yes, Tom, I'm a bit concerned right now. Brads father Paul was here the other day." I paused, trying to word it without sounding crazy myself. "Paul started talking crazy, said something about Brad being killed by creatures and promising to protect me. I just think Paul might know something we dont." I finished with a sigh of frustration Tom has been on the case since I reported Brad missing. So far, he hasn't had any luck either. I was hoping this would help get things moving in the right direction to find Brad. Tom was silent for a few moments. For a second, I thought the line went dead. "Yea...uh.. I'll bring Paul in for some questions then. I'll keep you updated." *click* the line went dead. That was weird. Maybe he knew something to...tears began welling in my eyes, wondering if they thought they found Brads remains. I angrily wiped my eyes, trying to get that thought out of my head. No. Brads going to be ok, I just know it. It may seem stupid to hold on to false hope, but it was all I had left. I stood in the kitchen, still clutching the phone in my hand. Thinking about the last time I saw Brad alive was in this very spot. Brad told me where he was going that weekend, where he will be setting up camp. He told me just in case there was an emergency. I looked around the kitchen till i found what i was looking for. I pulled out the old map of the area where he went camping. They had to have missed something out there. I thought about checking it out myself for weeks, but Paul always convinced me not to go. Paul, who I no longer trusted, who was keeping something from me. Sighing as I folded the map back up Well he can't stop me now. I ran back to my room to get changed and put my hiking boots on. Grabbing several waters from the fridge and my flashlight, packing them into a book bag. Everyone else may want to just give up, but I refuse to. I will find him and shove it into all of their faces. Trevor's POV Trixie didn't show up to work this morning, so I decided to check on her at home. She did give me her blessing to check on her today. I also didn't blame her for taking the day off from work. The way the Hunter Paul was acting in front of her last night must've scared her. Yet it's a good thing to know she isn't one of them. Now, once I tell her about my kind, I can comfortably take her back to the pack. Her car was gone from the driveway, and there was no answer at the door. I tried the knob and it was locked. At least, she listened. I stepped back and looked to the main road, taking a deep inhale. Her scent headed north down the road, but it was fading. Running into the treeline, I shifted in my wolf form. Duke was a grey wolf with a black strip going down his back with blue eyes. Not only was he the fastest of or pack but a great hunter as well. He followed the scent for a long time. Where was she going? It led to no stores or shops around and even took Duke far out of town. He growled at the thought that she could be ditching town, leaving her mate behind. Though she had no idea I was her mate, wolves can be very possessive over their mate. They had the right to reject their mate, but it didn't come with great difficulty. The pain of rejection can sometimes kill a wolf. Rejection can cause wolves to leave their pack and go rogue. Just like that, she wolf did that. I'm meant to be tracking down. But my mate mattered more to me at this moment, the she wolf can wait. It's not like she wanted to be found. I had to be an hour behind Trixie, I just had to make sure she was safe. Even if I had to stay hidden in the trees. if she saw me in my human form, she would know I was watching her. Probably call me a stalker and call the human police. I would definitely lose her trust if that happened. Then, I would never be able to be with my mate. I would be forced to live on without her. If she claimed a new partner, she wouldn't know I would be in pain every time she slept with someone else. I would have to keep myself hidden no matter what.
