Life hasn't been easy, I have been struggling to provide for my son and I. how I was able to cope with work and study was a mystery to everyone, especially Tasha. I have had so many jobs in the past and I ended up getting fired because of my son(Starr), they didn't like the idea of me bringing my son to my workplace.
It's been four years since I moved out of my parent's house with my son who's now three years old, he's a smart and intelligent kid and he doesn't give me headaches. luckily for me, Tasha was almost done with college and she visits me often, she also helps in taking care of Starr.
After school I would stop at the cafe where I was working part-time, the pay wasn't much but it was manageable, it was enough for us to feed. I often drop my son with our neighbor who would take care of him till I come back from work.
Sometimes I feel like giving up but whenever I see my son I'm motivated to work hard, he's my bundle of joy and the only family I have left, nothing matters to me than giving him a beautiful life.
It wasn't easy but I know I made the right choice, my son has grown into a handsome boy, he looks nothing like me, and his dreamy blue eyes keep reminding me of the man who took my virginity four years ago.
I can't understand why he didn't bother to find me after taking my virginity, "Doesn't that mean anything to him?".
He's probably one of these assholes who go around using women and getting rid of them after that, I decided to wave him off my mind and continue with my duty.
"Table 4!" One of my colleagues shouted.
"Coming right up!" I replied as I carried a tray of coffee from the counter and headed towards the table, I was about to drop the coffee on the table when a man set his leg for me and I tripped over spilling the coffee and everyone snorted.
This was coming after he asked for my contact and I refused to let him have access to it, I wanted to give him a resounding slap or rain abuses on him but I couldn't, that isn't professional and I will lose my job if I do that.
I picked up the tray from the floor and ran into the bathroom to clean myself up, I stared into the mirror in the bathroom and all I could feel was anger and humiliation. Tears filled my eyes but I wiped them away with the back of my hand, I can't break down, I'm going to get through all of these.
I got home at night and Starr was sleeping comfortably on the bed that we both share, it was a small house which has only a room, and our things barely fitted in, I wished I had the money to pay for an apartment so that my Starr would be comfortable and also have enough space to play around like other kids, he's a good kid and I don't want him to suffer.
I covered him with a blanket, my gaze not leaving him as I admired him, he tossed around the bed and finally opened his eyes...
"Welcome mummy"His tiny voice rang into my ears melting me softly, he hugged me and I cuddled him tightly.
"I love you so much, Sweetheart".
It's so funny that I haven't seen my family since I left the house four years ago, it's also a good thing because I'm not ready to meet any of them and I'm not sure I will ever be. I was done with college but getting a decent job was hard for me so I decided to continue working at the cafe, not part-time but full-time.
I gave it my all in order to make sure I don't anger my employer and that I keep my job and one of the ways to achieve that is by turning deaf ears to rude customers.
"I don't like this job, I want you to quit!" Tasha said to me as she visited me at the cafe, it was my break time so I was able to sit and chat with her.
"I can't, my son and I will suffer if I do that, this is my only source of income".
She paused and stared at me before looking away, I could tell she was worried about me, the job was stressful and she thought I deserved more than being a waitress.
"Currently, there's no job at my Dad's company, I will tell him about you and see if there's a vacancy in his friend's company".
I was excited and I thanked her, she has done A lot of things for my son and me and I couldn't think of a better way to repay her for her kindness but I will, one day.

"There's a vacancy in his friend's tech company and your interview is scheduled tomorrow, I will text you the address," Tasha said over the phone and I screamed in excitement, I covered my mouth with my hand trying not to wake Starr who was fast asleep.
I dressed up in a black skirt and white shirt, I stared into the mirror and muttered a little prayer before heading to the venue. I arrived at the company and I got down from the taxi, the building is made of glass and steel and it's surrounded by a beautiful garden with fountains and sculptures. Inside, there are high-tech labs and large conference rooms, not so long I was called in for an interview.
I was preparing dinner in the kitchen when my phone buzzed and it was an email from the tech company. I shouted and my voice sent my son running into the kitchen.
"Are you okay, mummy?"He asked, he was so concerned.
"I'm okay, sweetheart, I just got a job".
