Chapter One
Lila's Pov
Sun rays seeped through the white curtains as I stretched on the king-sized bed. The soft mattress was like heaven against my bare body, and I wished I could remain there forever.
I took in a sharp breath. Pinewood. Just as it felt like heaven, it also smelled like heaven. I smiled to myself as fragments of last night came flooding into my brain. Caleb and I had entertained each other in each other's arms. I was sure my pleasure-filled screams and his grunts could be heard from miles away.
A quick swipe of my gaze around the room told me Alpha Caleb had gone for his morning training with the other pack mates. I rolled my eyes at that. There was always training completely as if there were some sort of war coming or something.
As I sat up, dreading the fact that I'd have to go back to my apartment, it immediately hit me.
My body went stiff, my eyes changed from their usual blue to completely white as I unconsciously raised my head to the ceiling.
What I saw gripped my mind. Bullets. Silver bullets scattered on a bloodied floor. Screams of pups and yells of their mothers as they ran to hide. The air was tainted with thick smoke that made it hard for me to make out anything. Suddenly, another image flashed, and this time, it was Alpha Caleb. He was beaten and battered.
He was on his knees, clutching his chest, which was oozing with deep, dark red blood; a silver spike had been run through his heart. My own heart plummeted at the sight.
Then, just as quickly as those images came, they left, but not before tears began to flow from my eyes at the impending doom of the future I had just witnessed.
“What the hell was that?”
I whipped my head so fast toward the source of the voice that I was sure I could hear a crack coming from my neck. My eyes widened. It was Alpha Caleb. He was at the door, his hazel eyes wide with shock at what he had just witnessed.
My heart rate spiked, and my blood raced. No. No. No. He wasn't supposed to see this. He wasn't supposed to know.
He walked into the room slowly, a scowl etched on his face; the smell of anger was intense in the room. “Lila. What. The. Hell. Was. That?” He repeated slowly when he stopped at the foot of the bed, his intense eyes boring into mine, searching as if I were some stranger he was trying to figure out.
I wasn't. I was his girlfriend of two years who had managed to keep my powers from him, and I held no regrets.
“I… I, hmm—” I stumbled over my words, not sure how to speak in this situation.
“Are you a f*****g seer?” He seethed, speaking the last word as if it were venom on his lips.
I winced, and almost immediately, tears formed in my eyes. Slowly, I shook my head. “I'm sorry, Caleb. I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't want what was going on between us to end; that's why I couldn't tell you.”
As soon as those words left my mouth, I swear I could see hate seeping into his eyes. What was usually filled with love and adoration whenever they were placed on me was immediately filled with intense hate. I could see the temperature in the room dropping as cold radiated from him.
With his jaw clenched, he said, “My parents were betrayed and killed because of a f*****g seer. My sister was sold out and then abused because that seer thought it would bring in good bucks for his pocket. This pack was turned upside down because of a seer.” The rage in his eyes did not go unnoticed.
I flinched with every word he spoke.
“You knew all this. You knew how much I hate them, and yet you're here.” His scowl was enough to send a spike through my heart. “It's been two f*****g years, and all along I didn't know I was dating my enemy. The very being I hate.”
“Caleb. You can't do this. It's not fair. It's—”
A dark chuckle escaped his lips. Amidst the hate that clouded his features, I could see the pain and hurt in them as he said, “It's not fair? Was it fair that your kind killed my parents and hurt my sister?“Was it fair that your kind made me wake up every night after reliving the night of their deaths over and over again?”
The tears flooded from my eyes as I clutched the blanket around my naked body tighter. “Don't do this, Caleb. I'm not Anthony.” Anthony was the evil seer who had used his gift for his selfish acts. “I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. Why would I want to do anything like that?”
“f**k,” his voice bounced off the walls, and I jumped. His hands ran through his already disheveled hair. “I trusted you with my very being. Hell, I loved you.” Then he stopped. “Who knows if this has been your plan all along? To pretend to love me, to care about me, and then attack me from—”
“CALEB, STOP,” I yelled, my chest heaving. “I find it disrespectful that you would say that about me. You know how much I love you. Even if I'm a werewolf, I can't hurt a goddamn fly. You know I can't do such things. I love you. We can work this out.”
“We?” He shook his head, releasing a bitter laugh. “There’s no 'we' anymore. We are done, ..both of us. Now, leave.” He glared. “I don't want to ever see you. Do not f*****g cross paths with me, or best believe I would ruin you.”
