Chapter 3

3 Annie woke up early the next morning and put in a lot of effort into dressing up and getting ready for school. She looked really good but the butterflies that were flying around crazily in the pit of her stomach couldn’t be ignored. However, this was one of those times she had to suck it in and just hope for the best because in all honesty, she didn’t have any option. Her dad drove her to school and he could feel the nervousness oozing off her even though she tried to mask it. As she got down from the car, she let out a loud sigh and looked up at the building. It was a big school and it was old, with the walls covered with hanging leaves. Her dad felt her jump when he placed his hand on her shoulder to snap her out of her thoughts. “I have told you to calm down.” He gave her a reassuring smile, “It’s going to be okay.” He led her inside and Annie couldn’t help but marvel about how the students related with her dad. In her former schools, the principals were so strict that when they came to school, the students were saying hi and even having secret handshakes with him. As the football team passed by, he high-fived all of them. “Are you really like this with all your students or did you put them up to this?” She asked him. He turned around and looked at her with a frown, then proceeded to enter the office. “Do you really think I have the time to stop my students from school work and then pull them aside to learn secret handshakes?” she laughed “i’ve always wanted my students to be free with me and so, i set the foundation of our relationship that way. Their school counselor barely does any work around here because students come to me, more than they come to me.” Annie stared at her dad as she spoke. She was proud of him, for being her dad, for being that way with his students. If any of her former principals had been that way, she won’t have had the issues she faced. The bell rang and her eyes met her father’s. “You should get to class. Here’s your schedule. Have a great first day.” Now she was truly on her own to navigate the only school that would accept her in the entire state. If she somehow managed to piss someone and get expelled, then he was done for. She had a class now and didn’t have the faintest clue where to go. She had been walking around and she could swear she had gone past the notice board three times. She finally decided to ask for help but there was no one left in the hallway, maybe she’ll just sit this one out and get ready for the next. “Do you need help?” She heard a voice behind her and she turned around to see a students looking at her “Uh yeah, I have biology now and I have no idea where to go for that.” The girl's eyebrows perked up. “Really?’ she grabbed Annie’s hand and pulled it with her “ I have that as well. That’s great, let’s go.” She sighed, happy that she had seen help. Maybe this school wasn't going to be so bad after all. The girl knocked on a door and pushed it open. As they stepped in, all eyes turned to th and Annie almost froze. Despite popular beliefs, she hated attention. “Hey Mrs Ade, sorry I'm late. The principal put me in charge of showing the new student the ropes.” Annie knew she was lying but she could let this on slide since the girl had helped her. The teacher just rolled her eyes and waved them to their seats. “Thanks for saving my ass back there, newbie. My name's Kira. What’s yours?” “Annie.” “I saw you with the principal earlier. Don’t tell me you got into troulble on your first day of school. Daddy won’t be happy about that.” Kira teased. “Well “daddy” walked me into school. My dad’s the principal.” Kira smiled.``I like you already, Leonne. Good for you.” Annie smiled and focused on class. She was glad her dad had been right about the students. Even though it was just her first class, she doesn't hate the first person she met the least. Soon enough the class was over and the both headed out into the hallway. “What class do you have next?” Kira asked. “Music. Do you have the same?” Annie asked hopefully. She didn’t want to have to go to the new class alone. “Nah. I have English. Anyways, the music room is down the hall to your right. It’s the first door on the left.`` Annie frowned.”Aren’t you a new student as well?” Kira scoffed. “What? Nah, I've been here for a long while. Let me guess, you're wondering where I was coming from when I met you.” Annoe nodded. “I went to see my mate and things got a little...heated. You know what a mate is, right?” Annie laughed and shook her head. As she walked away, she turned back to look at her new friend. “See you later, Kira.” She followed the direction that Kira had given and she made sure to memorize them and take note of a few other things . She also took note of the fact that if she didn’t walk fast and enter the class in one minute instead of staring at the length of a particular girl’s skirt with a shocked expression, she would be officially deemed late and a detention on the first day of her new school wasn't exactly the best for a wrap sheet. She ran towards the room and let out a frustrated sigh. She was late. Gathering all the courage she cld, she pushed open the door and walked in. Everyone stopped playing the instruments and looked up at her. “How may I help you, young lady?” Annie opened her mouth to answer but there was someone that was still playing the piano. She felt her heart beat faster as she laid eyes on him. He was perfect. “Hello young lady?” Annie snapped out of her daydream. “I’m new here. I have this class now.” The teacher welcomed her and told her to introduce herself. While she did so, her entire attenion ws fixed on the piano boy and she couldn’t just fathom what it was that she was feeling. He had long black hair and it blocked half of his face. He wore black all over and Annie wanted nothing more than to run her hands through his hair. “Go take a seat, Annie. I’ll let you sit this one out since it’s your first time. We’re laying a piece that we’ve been practicing for weeks. It’s a classic. I know you don't know what a classical is-“ “Beethoven, the Sixth.” She said as she stared at Jessie. Just then, he looked up from his piano and looked at him and she turned visibly red. He truly was perfect. She wanted to know who this guy was and if he was single. She was surprised at herself because this was the first time she would be attracted to a guy. She basically paid no attention to any one of them. “That’s amazing.. You sure know your classics.” That praise from the teacher was nothing compared to the joy she felt when Jessie looked up at her and gave her a full smile while walking towards her
