Chapter 91

1248 Words

CHAPTER NINETY-ONE Moonlight filters through the gauzy curtains of my room, casting a ghostly glow on the wooden floorboards. The quiet of the night wraps around me like a comforting blanket as I curl beneath the sheets, trying to ignore the ache in my chest. Betrayal is a bitter pill to swallow, and Tristan's defection to the rogues after all we shared gnaws at me ceaselessly. A sharp rap against the window startles me from my thoughts, and I sit bolt upright, heart pounding. Peering into the darkness, I can barely make out the silhouette of a person. My breath catches when the moonlight reveals Tristan's familiar face. Anger surges through me. How dare he come here after what he’s done? "Open up, Aria," he pleads softly, his voice barely a whisper that carries through the thin glass.
