Chapter 7

334 Words
Ever since Liam walked out that day, he never came to see me again. The one thing I didn't expect was Ronald. He actually stayed by my side and looked after me until I was discharged from the hospital. After I got home, I joined my grandfather's company. As luck would have it, our company and the Young family were competing for the same client. Ever since my mother died, my grandfather and the Young family had been bitter enemies. They stole each other's clients every chance they got. Right in the middle of that fierce competition, Liam came to see me. At first, he spent forever making small talk. He talked about everything except why he was there. Finally, I'd had enough. "What exactly do you want to say?" He lowered his head, guilt written all over his face. "I'm sorry. I left you alone in the hospital after you got hurt." "It's fine." My voice was calm. Instead, he looked anxious. "Delia, I know I was wrong. But could you stop holding a grudge against Arlene? The minute she heard you'd been discharged, she kept urging me to come apologize to you. Ever since you dragged her into that lake when you were kids, she's always been scared of you." He looked at me cautiously. A lump formed in my throat. I almost laughed. So this was who I was in his eyes. A violent, irrational woman who hurt people for no reason. "Got it. You can leave now." I turned my face away. "Actually... there's one more thing." He hesitated. "Could you give that client to Arlene? She's trying to establish herself in the family right now. She really needs a big client, especially one she can say she took from you. I'll owe you one." I was so angry my chest rose and fell with every breath. But I smiled instead. "You really would do anything for her." He lowered his head with a shy smile. "Because I love her."
