Watching Chandni looking so disturbed and devastated brought a wet sheen to Vikram's eye. Just when he thought she had become strong enough to face her challenges, all his hopes were dealt a severe blow. Vikram approached Chandni and took her hand, as he slowly urged her to come out of the room, locking his gaze with her. She looked defiantly at him and refused to move even an inch. "Chandni Beti, please come this way, you will hurt yourself." Rashid Chacha too urged her. Soon Nargis Chachi arrived with a spare pair of shoes and bent down to Chandni's feet, intent on putting the shoes on to her feet, with or without her consent. Perhaps it was the sight of the elderly lady bending down to her feet that did it or something else, Chandni seemed to slowly come out of her shock and defiance
