Chapter Three
Hammond
“Don’t touch me!” The woman’s voice was loud and clear for everyone to hear. The additional tone of warning snagged Hamm’s attention, and he turned around in time to see Detective Melk grab her wrist and yank her toward him. The woman shrieked as her head jerked back. She tried to get away from him, but Melk grasped her other arm with his other hand.
At first glance, Hamm would assume she was a suspect trying to evade capture, but in those few seconds when they’d exchanged glances, he’d also noticed the badge dangling between her breasts, which meant she was one of them. In Hamm’s opinion, Melk’s behavior was totally uncalled-for.
“Hey, hey, hey!” He dashed toward them and tried to pull the detective away.
