MEL Liam and I being back on good terms was a relief. It seemed like things were better than ever. Asher found me at school first thing the following week, trying to check on me. I assured him I was fine and we didn’t need to discuss it again. I was spared from any more badgering on the topic when Liam arrived at school early and strolled into the classroom. As soon as he saw me, he smiled brightly. Liam and I passed notes back and forth during class, even though I knew I should be studying for the midterm. Each time we got close to filling up the sheet of paper, I squirreled it away in my bag and used a fresh one. It was stupid, but those little messages felt like something just between us.
