CHAPTER 17 Jason instantly missed Alyssa once she drove out of the parking lot. She had work in the morning so she had to leave a little early to prepare herself. The building never felt so empty before. He never felt so satisfied before. The weekend turned out great despite Abagail’s attempt to piss him off, but he would give her a taste of her own medicine in the morning. Jason looked at his phone to check the time. It was 8:30 p.m now as he walked back into the building.
Yolanda called him as soon as he entered the penthouse. “Jason, what happened?” Jason smiled closing his bedroom door. “Yolanda, how was the rest of the show?”
“It went well I think except that b***h that went after Alyssa, well her and her husband got into it and got put out.” Jason listened in, more than intrigued. “What? He must have followed her to the bathroom while I was in there.” Jason cursed, knowing some s**t like that would happen. “I don’t know, but they got into it big time. Wasn’t she the one who comes every Monday?”
“Yeah, Abagail Hawthorne.”
“I thought her face looked familiar. Back when Valerie and I use to pop in on Mondays we used to see her leaving. That b***h is obsessed with you Jason, what did you do to her?” Jason chuckled. “The same things I do to you and Valerie. She just isn’t as respectful to her husband as you are with your wife. I don’t blame the man for getting upset.” Yolanda scoffed. “He must have found out about her going to you then. Be careful Jason.”
“I will thanks for the heads up Yolanda.” He hung up sitting in his bed. He glanced over to the empty side of the bed where Alyssa’s body had laid in his tee shirt, looking oh so sweet as she slept. He wanted her there forever because now he was lonely in the empty oversized king bed. He had to send her a text making sure she got home safely and tell her goodnight. Turning on the tv to Disney channel imagining she still laid beside him, he drifted off to sleep ready to face the morning.
Jason woke refreshed and prepared for the day he would have. It was 5:30 in the morning once he got out of the shower, ready to get the whole week over with. Something unsettling was happening around him that he wasn’t sure of, but he knew something big was coming. He checked his watch and was surprised it was already 6 before Melissa walked in. “Melissa I told you not to…” she threw her hands up as she walked over with fear in her eyes.
“I had to come up to tell you the police are waiting downstairs to talk to you.” His eyes widened in surprise. “What? What for?”
“I’m not sure they couldn’t discuss it with me. You think it’s about Diamond. God are they coming to arrest me?” She began to hyperventilate as she leaned against the couch. “Calm down, Melissa. I will go talk to them. In the meantime call Wilson and have Lawyer Ross on the way just in case.” She nodded getting right on the phone to call them as Jason walked down to the lobby with fear in his chest. There were two cops and one detective woman. She was a blonde with long curly hair that was pressed into a bun with glasses.
The cops looked as if they were extreme bodybuilders with their badges flashing forward. “Mr. Sanders?” She stood shaking his hand. He greeted her by shaking hers. “I’m Detective Fairchild and this is Officer Williamson and Officer McGee. Is there anywhere we can speak privately?” Jason gestured for them to follow him to the conference room that was around the corner from the lobby. “What is this about, Detective Fairchild?”
She pulled out a picture showing it to him. “One of your clients went missing Saturday night. Abagail Hawthorne.” Jason’s heart began to beat loudly, but he kept his cool on the outside. “I’m sorry to hear that. I will help any way I can. She was a huge investor in my company.” They all sat down as she pulled out a pen and a pad. “When did you see her last?”
“She was at a fashion show. I just so happened to bump into her there.” He replied honestly. “Did you get into an argument of any kind while at the fashion show?”
“No. One of my friends told me she and her husband were put out once I left because they got into it pretty bad. I only saw her a couple of times, by the bar and across from me on the stage.” Detective Fairchild began to write some things down. “What would you say your relationship with Abagail was?” Jason winced at the question. “We were business partners.” He said. “Nothing more.” Detective Fairchild looked at him as if he was lying.
“Oh really? We found her phone left in her car last night with an appointment for Monday 6 o’clock every week for here. Was that just to talk about business?” Jason licked his lips. “What I do here is confidential. I’m not liable to tell anyone else’s business for any reason.” Then Officer McGee stood up walking over towards Jason. He watched his every move. “And what exactly do you do here?” Jason’s eyes squinted as he stared intensely at the man. “I help women to relieve stress.”
The officer hit the table hard. “Bullshit! You have been helping these women have affairs with you while claiming this is some type of doctor’s office.” Jason was unphased by the interrogation. He learned many times in this business how to keep a cool head in high-pressure situations. “It isn’t up to me if the woman cheats on their husbands or not. No one is forced to come here. Yes, Abagail was a client of mines.”
“So did you kill her because you became jealous she was with her husband?” Officer McGee grabbed Jason’s collar. “Officer McGee, please. Stop.” Detective Fairchild intervened calming Officer McGee down. Jason fixed his shirt. “I’m sorry about McGee’s behavior. Are there any camera in the building?” Jason shook his head. “Not in the rooms. Only in the lobby. It has to remain private for the client’s privacy policy.”
Jason leaned against the table. “I’m one of your suspects, aren’t I? You think I killed or kidnapped Abagail?” Jason scoffed, looking at the truth in their eyes. “I’m not saying another word until my lawyer gets here.” He leaned back in the seat with his arms crossed as Detective Fairchild stared at Officer McGee. “We just want to find out what happened to her Mr. Sanders that’s all.” She tried to ease him back into talking, but Jason wouldn’t open his mouth anymore.
After twenty minutes of them silently looking at each other, Wilson, Dan and Lawyer Ross walked into the conference room. Why Dan was there he didn’t know, but for the first time, he couldn’t complain he showed. “What the f**k is going on here? Why the hell are you interrogating my son?” He asked, walking in with anger. Officer Williamson held Dan back. “Please, only the lawyer can be present.” Dan jerked away. “I am the founder and he is a co-founder of this company. We have a right to be here.”
He jerked his head to Wilson who had the same determined look on his face. “Let them through.” Detective Fairchild yelled out to Officer Williamson. “Since you are founders of this company you must know every investor, is that correct?” She held up a picture of Abagail to the men who just walked in. “That’s Abagail Hawthorne. Yes, she is an investor. What about her?” Dan replied. The lawyer took over for them. “Are you trying to accuse my clients of her disappearance?”
Wilson walked over to Jason. “You alright?” he asked, touching his shoulder. Jason nodded. “Yes, thanks for coming.” Dan caught a glimpse of their bond but just turned to the lawyer. “Her disappearance is all over the news right now. Apparently, she was kidnapped after the fashion show correct?” Detective Fairchild nodded. “Yes, that’s the last time Rick Hawthorne saw his wife.”
“Have you questioned him then? For all, we know he could’ve killed the poor lady and is trying to blame it on my son.” Dan replied, pacing the floor. “We are aware and have already questioned him. He said you, Jason Sanders, got to arguing with his wife at the show, not him. Mind explaining why he would say that?” Jason looked up to Lawyer Ross before he spoke. “She was harassing my date and she followed her to the bathroom and tried to attack her. I broke it up and me and my date left right after. The last time I saw her was in that bathroom.”
“Does this date have a name?” His heart began to beat then as Dan looked at him dead in his cold soul searching for the only light he had. “No. she has nothing to do with this.”
“We need her name if she is important to this case Mr. Sanders.” The lawyer placed his hand on Jason’s shoulders. “You can’t give them a story like that Jason and not tell them who Abagail harassed. It will help you out in the long run since she can vouch you left with her. She’s just a witness nothing more.” Jason took a deep breath still uncomfortable giving Alyssa’s name.
“I want to leave her out of this for now. If you need a witness Yolanda and Valerie were there when I left.” Detective Fairchild paused staring at him with suspicion. “There is no way I would kidnap or murder one of my top investors, Detective Fairchild. What would I have to gain by doing those things?” She closed her book while standing up. “We will be in touch.” She said nodding to the officers.
