CHAPTER 10 The day already started off wrong for Jason as he ran on his treadmill, breaking out into a good sweat. The workout was much needed after he couldn’t clear his head from Alyssa. The great time they just had was now possibly thrown down the drain. Maybe it was his lifestyle that caused her to run as fast as she did. Rightfully so, he understood why she would run. His life was becoming more and more of a hell. As he thought this right on queue Dan screams his name. Jason shook his head annoyed. Like clockwork, Dan wanted to fuss at him about the event that happened last night. “Jason!” Dan appeared around the corner in a rush. “Dan, I would say nice to see you but I will be lying,” Jason replied, wiping his face with his towel as he stopped the machine. “What the hell happened last night? Did you hurt Melissa?” Jason lifted his eyebrows astounded by her lies. “Hurt her? Did she tell you that?” Right behind him like a frightened little child, Melissa stood. “I can’t believe you went running back to this fucker after you f****d up last night.” “That b***h…” Dan held his hands up and she became silent. “Regardless of what happened, it can’t happen again understood?” He turned to her as she nodded and then to Jason who walked to his kitchen. “You two can do whatever the f**k you want just leave me the hell out of it.” Dan followed as Melissa stayed in the workout area. “This woman is she going to be trouble?” Dan asked, folding his arms. Jason scoffed. “You mean worse than she-devil you left in there?” “I’m serious Jason.” “So am I. How dare you barge into my house questioning me about anything. If I didn’t make it clear the other day that you can go to hell, you sure can go today.” He slammed his refrigerator door. “Hell is this world around you son. Trust me.” Dan replied, unphased by his son’s attitude. “I didn’t come about the Board meeting or Melissa. I came because we meet with Lawyer Ross in the conference room in an hour.” Dan went into his suit jacket and pulled out some papers, handing them to Jason. With much hesitation, Jason grabbed the papers and what he read caused his eyes to widen. “She didn’t accept the money?” he looked up at Dan. “No. she wants to sue this company and everything we built.” Jason laughed with a loud Ha. “Excuse me, ‘we’? Since when did you get cursed?” He handed him back his paper as Dan snatched it away. “I have suffered more than you will ever know. Now put your hate for me somewhere else and let’s get this done. I won’t let this conniving b***h ruin us.” Dan walked firmly by Jason, hitting his shoulder as he went out. “One hour Jason.” He yelled back going into the elevator. Melissa stood angrily in the hallway. “I can’t believe you, Jason. You would choose that…” With a quick movement, Melissa wasn’t expecting Jason grabbed her by her jaws squeezing them inward tightly so she couldn’t speak as he pushed her against the wall. “Now my mother raised me to never hit a woman, God rest her soul, but you are making it very difficult to not want to hurt you.” He jerked away, turning her head forcefully. “Look at this mess you made.” She pointed to herself as Jason pointed to her. “Me? Really Jason? It wasn’t me when you were f*****g me and her then was it?” He shook his head. “I did, but did I push Diamond down some stairs? She was angry at you because you went behind both of our backs and got caught f*****g Dan. That is your fault.” “She fell, Jason!” She screamed with tears falling down her eyes. “She fell…I wouldn’t hurt Diamond like that.” Jason didn’t believe her crocodile tears at all. “Well, you did. And now she wants to go through with the lawsuit. She isn’t taking the money.” Her face dropped. “What? Oh my god. I was so sure she would’ve taken the money and left.” Jason took in a deep breath, holding his forehead as it began to ache. “What did it matter anyway? You were just about to go tell on yourself last night.” He began walking off to his room to get dressed. “I was angry. You know I would never put you or Dan at risk like that.” Jason laughed at the name Dan as he repeated it over and over. “Right Dan. You couldn’t have waited to run to him out of all people.” “I went to his house, yes, and we f****d all night. Is that what you want to hear?” Jason scoffed again, slamming his bedroom door in her face without another word.  He knew the day was just going to get worse. Jason walked into the conference room ready for the next step in Dan’s master plan to stop Diamond from suing them. Either way, he didn’t care too much to help Dan when he was just going to turn his back on him eventually as always. “Diamond Terrell is suing Sander’s Corporation for twelve million dollars for pain and suffering and medical expenses. How would you like to proceed?” Lawyer Ross asked Dan. “We want to fight against it of course. As I told you earlier, we offered her care to the company and a good sum of money, but she didn’t want to take it. This can’t get out to the public.” Dan replied, pointing at the papers in disgust. “With a company of this size and for what you do, everyone will be involved in a case like this. There is no way we can control it from getting out to the public.” The lawyer explained, leaning forward against the table. “This company is made to help people, not hurt them.” Jason chimed in. “It isn’t illegal what I do here.” The lawyer sighed. “You have many others who beg to differ.” He replied. “Then we spin the story.” The men looked over at Melissa who stood confidently. “Diamond became jealous of me and Jason’s relationship and wanted to find a way to hurt us. It could be that simple right?” “I like it,” Dan replied happily. Jason frowned almost disgusted at Dan. “So we just slander her name? That doesn’t seem right. She got hurt because of us. All of us.” He stated firmly on the last part. “We can’t do that to her.” Dan stood placing the papers back in the folder. “We can and we will. Run with that story.” He told the lawyer. “If it is a war she wants it’s, a war she’s going to get.” The lawyer began jotting notes down. “Tell me again Melissa how she fell down the stairs.” The lawyer leaned back in the chair to get comfortable as all the pressure was on her. “I told you. We argued and she fell when she tried to grab me.” “What exactly was the argument about?” Melissa looked over at Dan. “She caught me in bed with another man.” “So you two were lovers correct?” She nodded. “How long were you together?” Melissa licked her dry lips, feeling as if she was being interrogated. “I have to ask all of these questions. Her lawyer will grill you and Jason about the intimate relationship you guys had and want to spin it like you were the jealous one.” The lawyer explained, jotting more notes. “Even so if that was the case why does she want to sue the company and not just me?” She asked, honestly clueless. “Money honey. She knows you don’t have s**t. Why go after cake when you can own the bakery? Sounds reasonable enough. That just goes to show you. You have to keep your friends close but your enemies closer. After all my son has done for them she goes and does this shit.” Jason looked suspiciously over to Dan. He couldn’t understand why he was even protecting Melissa or getting involved this much. It is the company on the line, yes, but it could easily be rectified by handing Melissa over and the company not taking responsibility, but instead, he gave her a job. It didn’t make any sense. Jason stood then. Everyone watched him as he got ready to leave. Dan stood up once he reached his chair. “Hey. Stand with me on this. She made her bed.” Jason jerked away before Dan’s slime rubbed off on him. “And what about you Dan? What about your bed?” he walked away out of the office not able to listen anymore. He had to hear the story from the source. And also warn her of the war she just started.
