The creation of obsidian scales was a very hard job for the Homo erectus. A twelve-year old boy would be trying hard to make one but he would be unsuccessful. When after a long time, he managed to split one such rough scale off, he picked it up and with shiny eyes showed it to a woman who must have been his mother, who rewarded him with a smile and a sweet caress. He then ran to show it to the other children who rather indifferently looked at his creation. That was a reaction he didn’t like and so, he soon forgot all about obsidian scales and went back to the game with the rest of the children.
