Luke’s chest heaved as the last of his anger left him. The silence after his outburst sat heavy in the small room. Frustration was written all over his face, sharp and clear. He had been carrying the pressure alone since they fled the city. Anyone could see the weight was starting to crush him. Mindy, on the other hand, shrank back near the cot. Guilt burned through her chest almost at once. She had only spoken from fear, but now it felt selfish. Her lips parted as she prepared to apologize.
