"Yeah so romantic", Cali says. "At least now I know why I'm so clumsy".
I giggle while looking at the twins.
”Daddy is kind", Haleigh says, putting her chin onto her knees. "The very best".
"Yeah", Hayden says.
"Oh I know", I say with a big yawn.
What should've been a quick bedtime story turned out to be a five-hour storytime? Charlie fell asleep six hours ago, so he doesn't know that no one else hasn't slept yet.
I look at the clock. Yeah. It's two in the morning.
"Why haven't you told us this before? About your stepfather and about that Alicia girl and dad?" Cali asks.
"Because it's hard for me to talk about my past", I say. "That's why, and your dad knows that".
