Sadie’s POV "You don't know. You have no idea what those six years were like." "You're right. I don't." He stood up from the chair. "But I know what the last six years were like for me. Running an empire, standing in front of people who depend on me, and feeling nothing. Just a hollow where something used to be." He stepped toward me. I didn't move. "I know what it's like to sit in my father's chair and realize that every decision I've made since I sat in it has been wrong. And I know that the only moment in six years that felt real was standing in that gas station parking lot and seeing a child with eyes I couldn't explain, and feeling something c***k open inside me that I didn't know was still alive." The air left my lungs. "What did you just say?" I whispered. His eyes met mine.
