Sadie’s POV
He noticed. Of course he noticed.
"The clearing is located deep within the eastern woods," he added, keeping his voice low enough that the other parents shopping at the table wouldn't overhear. "Behind the fence that you liked earlier."
"I mean, behind the one you warned me not to go near."
"Yes."
"So why would a picture of that area be used at a fundraising event?"
The muscles in his jaw flexed visibly as he responded. "It was auctioned off as an historical artifact. Our estate has collected pictures from the last two centuries and someone on the committee picked it without realizing what it was."
"What was it, Taylor? Beside the statue located in the woods?"
His silence lasted for a moment longer. People came and went around us, buying and bidding items off the table
