Chapter 1 Goodbye Dan and Decker

It was a beautiful day in the office of the United States secret service agencies. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. Herald Decker, a staff of the agency, walked into the office and was received with a warm welcome. He is so loved in that agency because his reputation precedes him well enough. Herald was just settling in his office when Agent Smith, His boss summoned him into her office. He got up quickly and went to meet her in her office. On getting there he meets Daniel Fernando, a fellow agent like Herald. He entered the office and gave a salute to agents Smith and greeted Daniel with a nod and she said

“Hello Herald do have a sit”

He sat down and she began to talk saying,

“Good morning boys, I trust you are doing great. A man named Viktor Russ has recently gone rogue and we have been keeping a good eye on him for a while now”. Daniel looks in surprise,

``Who is Viktor? He asked

She answered him saying

“Viktor is a Russian virus scientist, who specializes in creating chemical weapons and Gas viruses. She goes further to tell them that he was secretly working for the American government to produce chemical weapons against external attacks and threats from other nations. Viktor created a gas weapon called Fanues 4, the gas can break down the human internal organs from inside the body if inhaled”.

In astonishment of what Viktor’s weapons could do Herald asked

“Why did he go rogue?”

“He has gotten more offers from the underground markets that were ready to pay more than what the government was willing to pay,” Agent Smith said.

She continued

“He kept a low profile for 2 years after he left, but now they got information that he wants to sell the gas to a Japanese crime lord for 400 million dollars”.

“What….. that a s**t load of money,” Daniel said,

“Boys, this is your mission: you are to stop this exchange from happening by recovering the Gas and apprehending Viktor Russ”. She said

As she stood up to leave the office and said

“let's see what Aaron has for us, they all got out of her office and went to Aaron” while walking toward the technology department.

Aaron vans is the head of the technology and sciences department of the secret service. They get there and Agent Smith asks Aaron what do you have,

“I have just found out that the exchange will be taking place in Chinatown New York City two days from today”. Aaron answered While typing on the computer

He said

“The crime lord has been in a hotel there for over 4 days now, expecting Viktor, the place is heavily guarded with Japanese gunmen. However, I have also come up with an antidote for Fanues 4 that will save you boys in case you are suddenly exposed to the gas”.

Herald smiled and bumped him in applause.

He gave both of them 2 doses each of the antidote one for them and the other in case of innocent causality. Agent Smith then faced both of them saying

“you both should make this mission a priority at no cost should you not recover this weapon”

“Yes ma” they both answered

Then they went to fetch their weapons of choice in the armory, while they were going agent smith called Herald back and said to him

“Be on the lookout I don’t trust Daniel” he acknowledged it and left.

They both picked their weapons for the mission. The next dad Daniel and Herald took a flight to New York, they got to Chinatown and stayed in a hotel and sat down to make plans, keeping in mind that they both had good wireless communication with Aaron and Agent Smith at the agency. The plan went like this: Viktor was to meet with the crime lord the next day, Daniel was to dress and act like the language translator and lure Viktor into a room of their choice while Herald would wear a face mask that looks like Viktor and make a fake exchange. It seemed like a good plan so they all agreed to it. That night they both went out for a drink in cover to have a good look at the environment on how the plan was to go off without any dilemma.

The next day came and the plan was set in motion, Viktor Russ was dropped in front of the hotel by a black Lincoln car while wearing a black suit and holding a silver-colored briefcase ( The gas was in there). Daniel went out to meet Viktor and introduced himself as the translator while Heald went into the room to meet the crime lord wearing a mask and holding a Silver briefcase as well. Viktor enters the room with Daniel and immediately they were in, Daniel pulled out a gun pointing at him and told him to sit. Meanwhile, Herald was already with the crime lord and they were negotiating. He entered the room. It was very huge and heavily guarded with fifteen gunmen in it protecting the Crime lord. He offered Herald a seat thinking it was Viktor then they began

“Where is the money”, Herald asked in a fake Russian accent

The Crime lord then asked to see the good first. Herald put the briefcase on the table and opened it. A cold smoke came out of the fake briefcase and inside it were 4 veils safely inserted in a soft foam case. The crime lord smiled and took out one of the vials, he then ordered one of his men to come closer to him then he tossed a nose mask to Herald he also wore one and exposed the gas to that gunman. He inhaled it and they waited to see what resulted but after waiting a bit nothing happened and immediately the crime looked in horror

“Fake Gas” he exclaimed.

The gunmen pulled out their guns and pointed them at Herald. Meanwhile, Daniel was with the real Viktor and was waiting for orders from Herald before they could both leave with the gas and Viktor. Herald, being very skilled, took a pen and stabbed the crime lord’s hand. He screamed in agony and immediately Herald took him as a hostage and told him to order his men to stand down. He ordered them and they all stood down while he was backing out in the hope of escaping, he got to the door and kicked the crime lord pushing him to his men and he ran off. The crime lord was infuriated

“ Find him I want him dead or alive”,

He yelled in pain, so they all went out in search of Herald shooting and searching randomly. Herald got to the room where Daniel and the real Viktor were and he told him that they were looking for him. He took off the fake masks and was ready to escape with Daniel the briefcase of gas and Viktor. They all got out of the Hotel and started running, while two gunmen confronted them and Herald said to keep going,

“I will take care of it”.

He pulled out a small knife and threw it into the forehead of one of the men. The other looked in horror while Herald ran toward him and snapped his neck. He then ran to meet up with Daniel and Viktor; they all got to crowded open space and Viktor found a way to free himself; he then brought out a veil and threatened to break it and kill all these people. Herald looked in shock thinking that Viktor should not be able to free himself, ( Herald didn't know that Daniel was the one that set him, Daniel knew Viktor very well and had been collecting goods from him outside the agency). Herald and Daniel raised their hands acting as they surrendered but Daniel winked at Viktor thinking Herald didn't notice, so Viktor dropped the gas and ran off. The gas fell and broke and immediately a woman and her child were exposed to it. Herald saw this and wanted to save her but Smith said from his hidden earbud and told him to remember the mission first. “s**t…..” Herald yelled in regret as he ran off.

They both went after Viktor and while running Viktor threw the briefcase away, Herald knowing Daniel could not be trusted with him told Daniel to go for the briefcase while he goes for Viktor. Unfortunately for them, Viktor escapes and Herald goes back to Daniel who had already gotten the briefcase. They both meet up and decide to find a place to lay low till the next day, on their way Herald sees the lifeless body of the innocent civilian woman and her kid and it broke his heart that he prioritized a mission over life. They both safely got back to the agency with the briefcase and gave it to Agent Smith and she took it and said,

“good job boys”. While walking into her office

She then calls them in and then Herald tells her how Daniel let Viktor escape he told her how he saw the wink Daniel gave him and he let him go

“How could you be so heartless and let an evil man go?” Herald said while facing Daniel in disgust

Daniel tried to deny it but the agency had evidence of how Daniel had been stealing confiscated weapons and selling them in the black market. Agent Smith then tells him that he will be going to jail and he is expelled from the agency, two men came in told Daniel to put down his badge and weapons and they took him away. Herald was then Congratulated for the mission but he was not happy, He then said

“I don't think I can continue with this job”, and agent Smith said why? Looking shocked

He answered and said,

“I watched a woman and her child die and had the power to save them but I couldn't”. Shaking his head in regret.

Agent Smith said

“It is part of the job Herald is what you signed in for and besides you're one of the best we have got”

but Herald was not buying it so he said

“I can do this anymore. I will email my resignation letter to you tomorrow”.

“It was fine but I'm gonna miss you,” Smith said while giving him a hug she then told him to go say goodbye to the rest of the Agent. That's how Agent Herald Decker left the American secret service
