ISLA'S POV
“Ughhh, choke me, grab my boobs” I heard as I approached my house. I stood in front of the door hesitant to open but either ways I did
“Girl wtf?” Bea jumped immediately and pushed the boy off her
“Girl seriously? Shouldn't you be doing this at his place?” I said as I moved towards my closet
“Hi Isla” Conrad said as he put on his boxers with his thing dangling around
Conrad was supposed to be her ex last time I remembered
“Hi” I said and rolled my eyes
“What's up?” Beatrice said sitting on the bed with the bedsheets wrapped around her
“Have to go help dad, the usuals” I said
“Bye” Conrad said as he walked to where Beatrice was, kissed her and left
“Bye baby” Beatrice said
Conrad walked out of the room and I shut the doors
“Girl wtf?” I said as I put my hands on my hips
“Don't judge” Bea said as she layed flat on the bed
“I thought you said y'all were done last week?”
“Yeah I mean, I thought so too but IDK he hit me up and we kinda made up”
“Made up? Y'all always breaking up and making and f*****g up”
She was quiet
“Y'all even fuckin and being loud? Everybody could hear your moans from outside”
“It's non of their business” bea said as she rolled her eyes
I walked towards her and sat on the bed with her
“This isn't healthy, this was how I and Jeremiah was pushing ‘til we finally gave up”
“Thinking about it, are we like Belly, you know the whole summer I turned pretty thing”
I frowned
“Sorry, that was supposed to be funny”
“Well you need to get back in your head and finally sort this whole back and forth thingy for good”
“Yeah heard you”
I hugged her then stood up and walked to where my table was .
“Bye gotta run along now”
Just then my father texted me
“where you at?”
“Omw dad” I texted back as I left the room.
Later that night, I had almost convinced myself the party wasn't a big deal, almost
“I know that face”
“What face?”
“You're overthinking bout sum, lemme guess? The party”
Beatrice knows me so well..
“I don't know bea”
“It's just one party, won't hurt”
“Yeah I know”
“told your mom?”
“Speaking of which me do that real quick” I brought out my phone and began to type. Beatrice sat closer to me and placed my head in her chest
“It's going to be all right and I know everything's been stressful but I gat you” she said
Those words were exactly what I needed to hear and it gave me comfort
“I love you so much” I said softly
“I love you more baby” she replied and we giggled.
Thursday's here, it was the presentation day and as usual I nailed it, I went to the coffee shop close to my school to get coffee and upon getting to the entrance door somebody rushing out bumped into me
“Sorry I-” I was saying quickly and suddenly the apology got lost in my throat when I looked up
It was Kieran Shaw, he was wearing a black fitted shirt that stretched across his shoulders, and his height made me take a small step back.
“You okay?” He asked
“Yeah, sorry wasn't looking” I said quickly and was proceeding to leave
“Morgan's daughter?” He said from behind, I stopped but didn't turn to look at him and just shouted “Isla” as I moved out of there
“Isla, got it” he echoed back
My heart was racing faster as I walked away and it felt as though my legs were shaking as my movement felt 2 times faster. I entered into the coffee shop and somehow Beatrice was there
“Girl how'd you get here so fast?” I said sounding awkward
“What? Class ended 40mins ago” she said as she stared at me weirdly
“Yeah sure right”
“What?”
“What?”
“You acting weird right now”
“Me?weird no?”
She didn't say anything but gave me that judgy look
“It was just a minor collision”
“What collision?” She asked
“Between me and Kieran just..” then it hit me, she didn't see anything and it was too late
“Dammnn, I didn't see that, tell me”
Shut! I wanted to slap my mouth for speaking too fast
“It's nothing girl”
She frowned
I told her, reluctantly, trying to make it sound as insignificant as possible, a random collision, a few sentences, nothing more but Beatrice's expression grew more delighted with every word.
“It was just a random bumping not anymore”
“With chemistry”
“No chemistry” I frowned “I don't know why I'm seeing this dude randomly nowadays, its weird”
“Well good thing there's a party this weekend”
“Beatrice?”
“I mean just saying maybe fate’s tryna tell you sum”
“Fate isn't real, coincidence are coincidence “
But these constant coincidences?
“Keep telling yourself that”
I rolled my eyes but some small, traitorous part of my chest hadn't quite settled since the bumping, still humming faintly with the memory of my own name in his voice
That night, lying in bed, I found myself replaying the encounter more than I wanted to admit. It wasn't anything, I told myself “a polite exchange nothing worth this much thought”
But then…
My phone buzzed and it was a text from my mom
“got your outfit ready?”
“Nah I'll put something together”
“Don't disgrace me”
“Wtf mom” I typed with a laughing emoji attached
“I mean, either ways you'll look good in anything”
“Yeah thanks”
“Dad?”
“He's sleeping and snoring, can't sleep with that horsenoise”
“I'll tell Dad you called him a horse”
“He knows baby, maybe I'll take a video and show him when he wakes up”
“Mommy” this time I giggled aloud and Beatrice turned from one end of the bed to the other. I placed my phone on my chest so she doesn't wake up by my phone light and when I noticed she didn't wake up I resumed texting
“I meannn”
“I miss you tho, I can't wait for you to finish college so you'd spend time with me at home”
“But I'm always visiting most weekends”
“Not enough, remember you're my only baby”
“Aw mom that's cute, I miss you too”
“Sleep’s coming, good night baby”
“Good night mom”
“Love you”
“Love you too, have fun at the party”
I stared at the last message for while
Two days until the party, two days until I'd be in the same room as him again, no accidental collisions required, no excuse necessary,
I told myself I wasn't looking forward to it
I was lying, and some quiet, honest part of me already knew it.
