~Claire Jace wasn’t moving. That scared me more than anything. I knelt beside him, my hands shaking as I grabbed his shoulders, trying to shake him awake. “Jace,” I called, voice breaking. “Please—wake up.” Nothing. Panic clawed at my throat. He was still breathing, but barely. His body was dead weight, slumped against the wall like a puppet with its strings cut.
